I dislike shopping. Well, let me elaborate. I dislike shopping for clothes. No, that is still not right. I dislike shopping for shirts. Hmmm... You know, really, I only dislike shopping for shirts for work. And maybe dislike is not right. I loathe shopping for shirts for work. Yep. I like shopping for electronics, books, music, food, shoes, even t-shirts and such. Shopping for work shirts, however... no no no.
I need more long-sleeve collared shirts and sweaters for winter. I typically shop at Kohls but I have most of their long-sleeve shirts that I like and I am wearing them out, so I decided to change up where I shop.
After work I went to Nordstroms Rack at the suggestion of a coworker. It reminded me of Goodwill but where the shirts cost $30, minimum. Everything was on long racks or round racks, and nothing was organized. Women's shirts were even mixed in quite often with the men's shirts. Or maybe I am pretty far out of touch with fashion. I did find a Dead Kennedys t-shirt that was pretty cool, but it cost $40. For a tshirt. I bet Jello would have a freakin' cow, but I digress...
All of the dress shirts I was finding at Nordstroms Rack had symbols across one breast like you were representing a king, often with plastic rhinestones and frilly frills. The pants all looked 2nd hand and cost close to $100 each. It was definitely not the store for me...
After giving up at Nordstroms Rack, I went next door to The Gap. I'm not proud, but like I said, I need clothing. The Gap was the polar opposite of Nordstroms Rack, everything was neat and spacious and spread out. I did not really look at any price tags because I could see all the clothing from the walkway and had no need to get close enough to see the tag (imagine a wall with all the clothing facing you so you can check it out from 10' away).
The Gap had plain clothing, which is much more my style, but it did not have anything my size except for a long sleeve shirt with some western-style stitching. All of the other clothing that they had was Large to XX-Large. I get the hint, Gap, I am a small minority. (pun intended)
I was on my way home when I passed a Marshalls and decided to stop there. It reminded me of Nordstroms Rack but much much smaller. I left quickly. All the way home I was cursing society, with its fashions that I don't understand. I only want a long-sleeved shirt, plain, with a collar or a nice v-neck. I'd prefer the color not be pastel. No western stitching, no rhinestones, no royal crests. Pocket or no pocket, I don't care. Button down or pull-over, it does not matter. Do they not make plain collared shirts or sweaters anymore or what? Is that like asking for a pizza with no cheese?
Do I need to change where I shop? Make a sacrifice to the clothing gods? I am very open to suggestions.
