(a quick update on what i've read, before i forget.)
17. purple hibiscus (chimamanda ngozi adichie). every bit as good as i thought it'd be. not life-altering, but definitely a book i would say i *liked* (as opposed to enjoyed reading). i'm a sucker for coming of age books and cultural stuff... i particularly liked how this books considered the value of the old, no so much *over* the new, but in conjunction.
18. the great influenza (john barry). i finally finished it! there was a section of about 100 pages that really dragged, but on the whole it was pretty interesting. but at the end, when he summed up his 3 main through-lines, that was the first time i learned that those were his through-lines. anyway, i promised my self my next few books would *not* be tomes. so...
19. the curious incident of the dog in the night-time. cute.
20. the penelopiad (margaret atwood). the odyssey from the point of view of penelope and the 12 maidens. very creative. i like it. super-short, too.
now i'm working on the plato papers (for fun) and in the lake of the woods for the book club. i picked up brick lane (monica ali) but can't really get into it. something about the writing irritates me. :-/
