It's been a while since I wrote here, but after seeing President Obama's explanation for his tax compromise plan I wrote him a brief reply with the form. I post here because there's a chance someone might actually read it.
Mr. President,
I say Mr. President with the hope that this message might reach you, but with the more realistic expectation that an aide or a volunteer might take a scan and note approval or disapproval before deleting.
I can see that I should have been writing you more often. When you ran for President I contributed to you and promoted more than I had ever imagined for any previous politician. It is with great sadness today that I say I wish I could get that money back. I understood your position until you talked about why we sent you to Washington. You are only half correct when you say that the status quo of Washington is scoring points on the other, that is the Republican party, Mr. President, you belong to the party that lacks the spine to keep to its core principles and negotiates away its position of strength to the group who is only interested in destroying the opposition.
I say this, not as a wide-eyed, no compromise liberal, as I hear those around you say; but as a former conservative.
I could talk more at length of the reasons that I and the people I talk to sent you to Washington, but I'll just say this, the two things that most disappoint me: I expected someone with your background in the Constitution would be doing more to repair it, and I am absolutely disgusted that with this tax compromise those who benefited most from the misery of the past decade got everything they wanted, and they will undermine what you will get in return at the earliest opportunity.
I urge you to reconsider the path of leadership that you've been on, your administration continues to ignore, scold, and ill-represent those who were your base to compromise to those who will never vote for you, never respect you, and will never work with you even at the detriment of the country. I have already stopped contributing, if this path continues I can't see voting for you or your allies in the future. Change path or stop asking me for money and support.
