CHARACTER INFO
Character name: Roxas
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Point in canon taken from: During his battle with Riku - just before Riku changed forms, he was knocked backward into a portal.
Appearance: Roxas is a relatively short, spiky-haired blond teenager (think mini-Cloud from FFVII). He has very vibrant, eye-catching blue eyes. Like all Organization XIII members, he wears a long black coat with a hood that zips in front, and black boots.
Personality:
Roxas bears many similarities to his counterpart, Sora, though their contrasts are also many. Like Sora, he is relatively friendly (unless you give him cause to be wary) and loyal to his friends. However, unlike Sora, he carries a lot of anger and resentment at the fact that he does not truly exist at all. He can be cocky and self-confident, but also quiet, more reserved, and overall probably more mature than his counterpart. He’s not naïve: he may be friendly as a general thing, but if there’s cause for him to be wary or mistrustful, he will be.
He can be quick to anger, especially in relation to matters concerning his own lack of true existence. Very introspective and thoughtful at times, his greatest desire is to know the truth about himself and his creation - who he really is, and how he can become whole again. He knows that he is connected to “Sora,” but he doesn’t know who or what Sora is. If he did, he might not be trying to find him. He’s protective of his own fragile existence, and pretty much unwilling to sacrifice it.
Roxas, being a Nobody, should not technically be able to feel emotion. Nobodies only pretend to feel, fooling others and themselves. But Roxas is a special Nobody, capable of feeling a wide range of emotions, which shows in his behavior. And the fact that he’s practically bipolar even in canon, orz.
History:
Roxas was born when Sora became a heartless. The shell left behind contained only a mind and body, but no heart. Roxas is a Nobody, a creature without true existence, a leftover imprint of a previous life. After his birth, he was brought to Organization XIII, where he became number XIII, or Key of Destiny (a reference to his ability to wield the same weapon as Sora, the Keyblade). It was there that he befriended Axel and Xion, though he later “absorbed” Xion and his memories of her faded away.
After Axel’s involvement in the events of Castle Oblivion and Xion’s death, Roxas became mistrustful of the organization he’d been working for, and even more curious as to the origins of his being. He knows he is connected to a being named “Sora,” but he’s unclear as to how or why. So, he defected from Organization XIII, despite Axel’s attempts at making him stay, and planned to leave The World That Never Was.
It was then that he encountered Riku, and the two battled. Riku, realizing he could not beat Roxas in his current state, changed form. Roxas stepped back, and found himself falling through a portal into blackness.
Example tag:
Roxas stumbled backwards with a cry, slamming his tail bone painfully against the wall, and hissed through his teeth. Not as planned. "Where... an elevator?" He glanced around, perplexed. "Great. That didn’t... The portal..." He trailed off, suddenly quiet. The portal... what was that, anyway? It had come out of nowhere.
Well, whatever place he was in now... always better to be prepared. Roxas extended his arm and tried to summon the keyblade. Keyword: tried. There was a glimmer in the air, the barest trace of a shape forming, then - nothing, it was gone. Roxas stared at his outstretched hand for a moment, dumbfounded, then groaned as he felt the energy drain out of his limbs, leaving them about as able to support his body as columns of jelly. He sunk to the floor and sat there, breathing heavily, for several seconds. "What... what the hell was that?" He stared at his quivering hands, wondering if he dared try to summon it again. Thinking better of it, he looked away, glaring at the elevator floor as though it had personally wronged him. "This place... can't be normal." His voice ran loud and clear through the confined space as he yelled his next words. "Hello? Anybody there?"
The elevator began to move and he yelped, jumping to his feet without really registering the action in his brain - until he realized, belatedly, that he could stand. He looked down at his hands, which had stopped shaking. "...Guess it doesn’t last very long." He sunk back down to the floor, curling one leg towards his chest and placing his elbow on the upturned knee. His posture was relaxed, but his eyes stayed trained on the door as, with a low ding, the doors slid open.
Example journal:
Hello? Can anyone hear me? If anyone’s there… [He trails off, not even sure what he wants to say.]
[There are low, muffled footsteps, his boots against the carpet, as he moves forward to look around. When he speaks again, his voice is low and tense.] Okay, so I’m in... what looks like a hotel lobby. There's no one around that I can see, so unless they’re hiding... [A sigh, then silence.] ...I’ve never heard of anyone being able to open a portal without even trying. I couldn’t have... someone had to have brought me here. Axel? But he can't open portals out of nowhere, either... and why would he bring me to this place? To stop me leaving? Doesn't make sense.
[He realizes, belatedly, that he's still be recorded.] Is there anyone there? Can you hear me?
