Ok. I am sitting here at my computer and trying to think of things that I am thankful for this year. This is an annual ritual which helps me focus on the good things in my life. I am thankful for:
1) I am alive and FEELING GOOD - I lived through major surgery and actually feel much better than I have in at least two or three years. I feel like I could dance on the table, I feel so good.
2) the good woman I have in my life - we have been together an incredible 18 years and still really like/love each other and still take the time to giggle and hold hands.
3) Zachary, Olivia, Annie, Ashley, Alyssa, Kaylie, Violet - all beautiful kids ranging in age from 1 year to 11 years that help me stay young at heart and focus on the simpler things in life.
4) Abigail - my pup - who always gets excited when I come home and doesn't care whether I dig ditches or do brain surgery.
5) the things that I found out about myself this year: I am tougher and stronger than I thought; I can walk away from people who suck all my emotional energy and alot of my time - I found out that they weren't there for me when I needed them so I feel like I have been released from duty ; I still get hurt when friends walk out on me; I want MORE RIGHTS as a GLBT person and am not willing to step aside and be quiet; I am burned out as a professor; I can write something besides academic drivel (thanks TD ;) ); and I rediscovered the music in my soul that I have been missing for quite some time. I'm sure there are others -but that is all that comes to mind right now.
6) for new friends and people who have crossed my path - in my TechnoDyke family and my Moving Violations family especially.
7) for the Indigo Girls, the Butchies, Stevie Nicks, Melissa Ferrick, Amy Ray, Catie Curtis, Meg Toohey, Rose Polenzani, Tina Turner, Michelle Malone, Tami Hart, Doria Roberts, Pamela Means, Tegan & Sara, Sara Lee, Love Pie and Melissa Etheridge - all whom I saw live this year - who provided me with a few hours of total musical bliss. Long live Rock n' Roll.
To the great One upstairs - a sincere thanks!
