House goodness

We close on our house in a month!  Or slightly less than a month, since February is a short month and all.  We finally reached an agreement on the inspection stuff -- the seller had an electrician do the load test and while it technically passed, the electrician also suggested that it be replaced since it was an unreliable brand (which is what we told the seller in the first place).  So the seller is going to pay half the replacement cost - yay for cash back at closing.  And with the home warranty that the listing agent is throwing in, we should have our butts covered for the first year, hopefully long enough to either catch anything else that comes up and break the old appliances.  :)

So that means that everything is taken care of and we're a go - inspection, financing, insurance, all done (or at least, done enough that I don't have to think about them anymore).  Yay!  I can't believe we're going to have an actual "house" soon.  With a yard!  I just hope there aren't any crackhouses next door.  The immediate neighbors have some old cars and boats in their driveway that are kind of an eyesore, but hopefully that's the worst of it.  I was slightly disappointed to hear that my Dad was concerned about that when he drove by.  Yes, their driveway is ugly, but it's not like there's nothing we can do about it.  We want to put in some privacy-greenery landscaping to block out that stuff, but we are going to do it in a nice gradual manner so it doesn't look like, "Hey, we're you're a-hole new neighbors who don't want to see your dumbass face."

Since we're going to live there a long time, it'd be nice to get along with the neighbors, y'know?  I'm willing to count my blessings not to live next to crack-dealing meth addicts who cut into our electrical wiring, and not waking up in the morning to police storming the building with guns.  It's the little things in life, y'know?  Granted the neighbors from hell were in Magnolia, so you can't bet on neighborhood alone, but fingers crossed that the new neighbors will at least be civil, if not awesome.

We're leaning toward moving early-mid April, but it could be as late as May.  Hopefully no later than early May, so we have plenty of time to clean up the apartment before the lease is up and for my darling to figure out how to replace the vinyl siding that he accidentally melted with the barbecue.  I asked him to try very hard not to melt any more houses from now on.  *sigh*
