T minus 21 days

I leave for Thailand three weeks from today!  This time on Jan 30th, I'll be somewhere over the big blue ocean, between here and Tokyo.  I am SO looking forward to having a sushi dinner in the Tokyo airport during our layover.  Yum!  Our itinerary, for those who care, is as follows:

We'll be based out of Chiang Mai, staying in the home of some family friends, for the first half our trip.  From there we'll make side trips out to villages and to greet some friends who will be arriving back in the country.  I'll probably be pitching in a bit at the World Aid office, meeting some people from a performing arts academy, and hopefully catching up with some friends from SPU.  Then from Chiang Mai we're going to spend a few days at the island of Ko Samui to take a more "resortish" type break with beaches and snorkeling and whatnot.  We finish up the trip in Bangkok staying with some more friends... these ones are like the Thai VonTrapp family.  The father is a composer, the mother is a singer and former movie star, and all of their kids are musicians (some are studying at Julliard right now).  Such talented and friendly people.

Stuff I have to do before I leave:

- Eye doctor (see about getting Rx sunglasses or new contacts)
- Travel clinic (for immunizations)
- Buy bug spray and toiletries in sizes that conform to TSA requirements (OOOG!)
- Pack
- Order all prescriptions and get letter from doctor explaining same
- Have realtor over and finalize plan for condo fix-its and moving out
-Tap dance (while I still can)
-Eat cheese (while I still can)
-Begin to acclimate self to spicy foods

I realize I haven't posted in quite awhile, but... well... I just didn't feel like it.  Caroling and church singing were crazy in December, though I think I did strike a pretty good balance between paid-have-to Christmas things and unpaid actually-celebrating Christmas activities.  We did have one awesome caroling gig that involved singing on hayrides, listening to the old wagon driver tell stories around a bonfire, and oodles of kids whose eyes were "all aglow."

And now, it turns out our pastor is leaving our church.  Voluntarily, but only in the loosest sense of the word.  If we weren't moving, we might contemplate sticking around to help keep the church from fracturing and helping it become a real community, but unfortunately our pastor's absence is one more thing that's making it easier for us to leave.  It's funny... I was having such a hard time letting go of living in Seattle, and one by one all the reasons I had for staying are melting away.  I'm not moving far, mind you, but it's just a mentality about being a "city girl."

*sigh*
