Just 12 Days To Go...

So, for anyone who has not visited this blog in the past few months and heard my endless praised and chorusing, I've become quite obsessed by the Raised By Wolves series by W.A. Hoffman. Later this month, May 15th to be exact, Treasure, the third book in the series comes out.

This series is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, and for anyone who hasn't been convinced yet, I thought I'd give you just a small sample of Hoffman's writing so you can see for yourselves what all the fuss is about. Plus, I haven't done one of these in a while anyway. So, without further ado...

(A brief preface before we begin - The lead characters in this series are well educated men of nobility from the 1600s. As a result, they speak several languages. Hoffman uses the first words of their dialogue to let you know whether they are speaking English, French or Spanish. It's a clever technique that works very well, and is by NO MEANS an attempt at fan-any language. And now...On to the good stuff...)

In the previous paragraphs, Will has been explaining how his heart was so filled with emotion, he wish he could find some release for it, similar to coming...

"I wish my heart could come," I blurted. He frowned with consternation and so I explained about how I was uncomfortably swollen with emotion.

"I know that feeling," he said soberly. "I feel it."

"Then what do you do?"

"Kill something," he said with a nod.

I blinked.

He shrugged. "It is usually not a pleasant emotion I find myself filled with."

"And now? Do you feel it now?"

"Oui. It is pleasant. I have no name for it. Can you name yours?"

"Oui." I bit my lip. I was hesitant to speak it, as I had always been soundly rebuked for it before. "Love."

He took a long breath and studied the horizon. I cringed inwardly.

"You are sure?" he asked.

"Oui."

"You have felt this before?"

"Oui, and it has gone unanswered...everytime."

His eyes were filled with trepidation when they found mine. "Not this time."

Brethen, by W.A. Hoffman, pages 250 - 251

Need I say anything else? It's beautiful, complex, well written stuff. What are you waiting for?

Ta,
Blue
