I need to try planting some of those mater varieties next year. I have not yet found one that doesn't make my stomach hurt. I really love the way the SunSugars taste, but they still cause tummy distress.

I have no idea what that thing is....

Is it an acid issue? The Limmony ones are low-acid, but still have a relatively sweet tomato taste. I'll bring you a German Johnson to try and see what you think of them. They're my absolute favorite tomato ever and have been for years, but I have no tummy issues with any tomato, it seems, so I'm probably not the best authority.

Kara knows what the Alien Veggie is. :-)

I'm pretty sure it's the acid. Anything tomato does it to me, though usually I can hold spagetti down with an over abudnance of noodles (the noodle to sauce ratio is... kinda sad really).

Kara keeps being on the phone, so I can't ask her. Oy.

Ooh, is that kohlrabi?

Those look like some tasty tomatoes. Mine have just been ripening over the last week or so too. I think I teased you last year about having a big pink German Johnson in your mouth, so I'll just keep quiet this time.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner! Yes, it is indeed a kohlrabi. I loved them so much when I was a kid, but evidently I was the only one in my whole school who had ever even heard of them, much less actually eaten one. I think my classmates thought I was making up this strange and wonderful veggie that no one else knew existed.

Yes, I remember that, too. But you can say it again, because wow, they're good. And so...juicy! :-P

Yes! It doesn't surprise me that they're readily available in California. Y'all get all the good stuff. Well, minus those wildfires and earthquakes, I mean. :-)

But seriously, yes...they're kind of an oddity around here, although you will sometimes see them at places like Earth Fare or other "healthy" grocery stores, just to go in your regular old supermarket, you're not gonna find them. I like growing them, but they're kind of a pain. Since each plant only produces one, you have to grow a ton of them to get any sort of decent crop. This is the fifth one we've had materialize, and sadly, there won't be too many more. Ah well...they're good while they last. :-)

Well, you could come over anyway. I go over to my best friend's house and cook for her (and sometimes her husband, too), which is probably the ultimate in weirdness, but when you're my friend, you have to expect these things.
