I've noticed many people expressing through "Blogs". How is LJ working for people as opposed to FB, or other "social networks"? Or, other journalistic sites?

Hey Blue! nice to see you here... and interesting that you're posting this question here, too...

For me, LJ vs FB is a case of apples vs oranges or maybe even apples vs marshmallows, though for me, that's too extreme. FB is so sound-bytey and performative, and much of what I post there is either "hey, look at the shiney" or a kind of performance (my series on the lads of Boston, e.g.). All my LJ entries save a very few are under lock and key and friends only... my FB entries are also friends only, but the set up of FB makes it impossible to maintain even the illusion of any kind of security.

The reality is that any LJ admin spook could turn over all my entries to any kind of state or police authority at any moment... so even here, I have to filter myself to some degree. I do prize this format because it allows me to do my journal entries in a way that helps further my own efforts towards greater mindfulness, and to share something of my life with a few chosen comrades. That at least is the intention.

Thanks... "24/7 cocktail party"...LOL! Exactly ;-) I used LJ for a long time. FB is a form of communication device, LJ is a communicating device...

Communication is a fine thing...but, really my purpose is to communicate to people, as selfish as I can be...I hope not!
