I have been anticipating this election since 2004 when Barack Obama made a speech in Chicago after winning the Senate seat. Michelle did this crazy introduction and brought him on stage and I was completely convinced this guy was going to do some good things. If you don't remember me jabbering on about Obama senior year of high school then you clearly don't know me.
So in 2008, this really pivotal year in our country's history we're at this complete loss between two men that I now believe are idiots. We have an unexperienced media hog, and an overly experienced walking death trap. I'm not thrilled or impressed by the people we've chosen to be our next president. And people keep saying this is such a historic election, first time in 52 years without an incumberant even running. Well if it's that great, they should have done a better job to give us something good.
I've done my research and seen that McCain will probably unfortunately keep all of his promises, while Obama unfortunately won't. I've seen what they've had to say about the economy, women's reproductive rights (nice job with the Viagra thing McCain, btw), education and No Child Left Behind, family policy, the war in Iraq, Afganistan, environmental issues etc. I am incredibly dissatisfied, but a vote is a vote.
And so, tomorrow or really today, I really am glad to be casting a vote. Party or not, issues or not, we're supposed to vote and that's just the way it is. We're lucky enough to have this right and we would be idiots not to take advantage.
But don't be dumb fucks about it.
Literally, when you go and listen to a one sided "presentation" on campus, decide that day you want to vote and the try and tell me my views are wrong, you've got another thing coming. I would never want to discourage anyone from voting, no matter who you're voting for, but I feel like it's your business, it's my business, let's not ruin it by taking our Obamaism or McCainism too far here.
I'm not Judy Woodruff here, so by no means is what I'm saying important. I think that those people out there who are paid to analyze all this, should stick with it. But I'm asking as a voter, please be smart, be thoughtful and be considerate. Your vote is making an impact for every Food Stamps family, substance abusing homeless woman, aborted baby, penniless elderly person and immigrant father. There are so many people out there who wish they could have a voice and you do, so use it.
