This Week in Schadenfreude

Ben Dutka never fails to amuse. This time around, he believes that the ad for Cloud Vol. 2, the followup to last year's Square Enix-centered mook, is a hint at another Compilation of FFVII entry. LULZ.

Next up, although this is a little old: Patrick Gann. My respect for RPGFan-which wasn't much, as I'd always preferred RPGamer anyway-went down by tremendous amounts when he wrote this negative review for It's a Wonderful World's original soundtrack. When the DS port of Rhapsody came out, his score of 91% shocked me, and after actually playing the game, I still find it baffling. The only possible explanation I can come up with is that the original game was one of Gann's personal favorites, thus, the high score.

Then, along came the news that the bonus content that had been mentioned on the official site was not going to be in the English-language release at all. Gann's news post about the matter was civil enough, but then I heard about his GameFAQs forums post via CAG, which is full of far more butthurt.

For the record, I didn't know about Rhapsody's bonus content until after I'd preordered it and Disgaea DS from Rosenqueen; needless to say, it wouldn't have affected my own decision to get it. However, there are plenty of fans of the original PS1 release for whom that's not the case. Of course, I don't blame Patrick Gann for being upset, as he's clearly one of these fans, but I'm laughing at the same time. Unfortunately, this whole situation won't result in him getting more refined tastes in game music, but we can't have everything, eh?

Non-sequitur note to namatamiku: Check your email, if you haven't already ^_^
