I swear, every time I play this game, I'm gobsmacked by something I overlooked and/or never found before. This playthrough is no different. My latest discovery was today, and it's the most incredible one I've run across this time around.
Just played through present-day Nibelheim and the Shinra Mansion, and am about to hit the Nibel Mountains. Before entering the Mansion, I went around to all the buildings in town to talk to the Sephiroth Clones and dig up goodies (well, save for Tifa's Level 4 manual. It seems that I can't get it yet...). That's when I noticed something odd about the two small clones in the house to the right of Tifa's.
During Cloud's "five years ago" story, you can enter this house and talk to a mom and her two kids. The little girl asks a lot of simple questions, while the (younger?) boy mimics her. From the script:
Girl: Shinra----?
Boy: Chinra---?
Girl: SOLDIER?
Boy: Saltza?
Girl: Are you going to kill the monsters?
Boy: .....are you going to?
You can probably already see where I'm going with this.
The Clones weren't as creepy this time around as they were when I first played the game, but are still unsettling, and this especially goes for the little ones. These two particular Clones are in the upstairs part of that same house. They say:
Clone 1: "....Re.... union."
Clone 2: ".........ion"
I had one of those "HOLY SHIT!" moments right there. Here in front of me was as close proof as possible that the Sephiroth Clones were made from Nibelheim's former residents-not even the "Periodic Report to Professor Hojo" imparted that information! Now that I'm writing about this encounter, it's totally obvious to me that the two little Clones in that house were those very same children.
Anyway, just thought I'd share :P
