Breeders Cup recap

Because LiveJournal was a total dickhead and went kersplat yesterday, I didn't get to make my pre-race picks for the last two races.

I'd like to extend my condolences to all fans of Pine Island. I was really saddened by her death too. I didn't see how she could have survived, though, given that she somersaulted. I'm surprised she didn't snap her neck. I'm very saddened though. The look on Edgar Prado's face as he was being walked back to the winner's circle said it all. My heart ached for him and Michael Matz at being triumphant with such tragedy in the race. And I was so happy to see Happy Ticket end up second (even though it was via DQ). Plus, yay for Awesome Again! :D

As for the Turf, I wanted English Channel to win it, but I was GOING to say that as a Moody Blues fan I couldn't possibly discount Red Rocks.... and lo and behol'.... :D Better Talk Now redeemed himself and proved that staying in America was wise.

And YAY! For Invasor!! IINNNNNNNVASOOOOOOOR!!!
I think that Bernardini got beaten only because he's never had a gut-check before. He never had a horse that, when he said "Do you know who I am? I'm the goddamn Batman!" say "So what? I'm the goddamn joker and I got your number, biiiitch!" I had a feeling that Lava Man wouldn't do it, just because speed horses don't usually do so well on Churchill's strip. But Invasor has survived gut-checks and has impressed me. And Bernardini impressed me with his raw talent, despite the "OMFG-WTFF?!?!" reaction he had to getting passed by Invasor. From the outset I figured that it'd be Invasor if it was any of the big three horses.

All in all, I had a good day despite the bad outcome of the Distaff.
