Open Mic Night (22-9-05), a.k.a. "Cloud Nine"

It stands to be said...last night was indeed one of the BEST Open Mic Nights I have seen at the cafe!  Everyone seemed in top form, even newcomer Stephanie, who was incredibly shy, as it was her first performance for an audience.  Stephanie...you rocked it, and should definitely come out to play more often.  My boy (and possibly soon-to-be collaborator) Mikey brought out his own brand of folk/blues, and believe me...that blues groove he kept was an undeniable force that kept me moving.

As for my performance...had to be one of my better ones.  I seem to have finally started to conquer my own stagefright.  I presented songs from both of the album projects I've been working on (The Oasis and This Town)...am proud to say that the title track from the latter of the two had heads bobbing to it's incessantly driving rhythm.  The reworked, newly instrumental "Ain't No Sunshine, Part 1" (from The Oasis) was joined in by Open Mic host and spoken wordsmith Kaos, who unleashed a poetic fury, allowing me to really stretch my imagination on the guitar, pushing and pulling with his tide of words.

The night closed off with the trance stylings of DJ Fatujz, a person who I fully intend on working with in the future.  I feel a potential connection with his more ethereal, atmospheric mixes.

I've also got to point out two other very interesting elements from last night: 1. Someone from the Scripps college newspaper was there taking pictures and writing a story about the evening's proceedings.  I can't wait to see what they write!  Also...2.  For myself, I just have to say it...I think I may have met the absolute most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on last night.  Seriously...she was so spellbinding, that I honestly believe her being in the audience actually helped drive my performance.  Yep...THAT gorgeous...but I do believe she's spoken for.  Oh well...I'm happy just to be blessed with the presence of such an enchanting muse.  ::takes a moment to catch breath::  Yep...THAT amazing, she was!
