Come on, sorrow, take your own advice . . .

And here comes the wanderlust again. It's been almost a year since the last time, so at least I'm consistent?

Left Georgia in June - and yes, thank Zod for that - and have basically been cooling my heels ever since. I'm temping at the insurance company my mother also works for (Customer Service/Accounting, so she's not my boss), and it is just boring as fuck. It's not a challenge, it doesn't even require much more intelligence and/or problem-solving than your average five-year-old possesses.

I miss teaching. I miss it so, so much.

I've tried saving for/applying to grad schools, and it's just too expensive. I'm still $20,000 in the hole for undergrad, and I paid half of that off in Korea. I don't have the savings, I can't get a job that will finance it (because all the jobs want you to HAVE the master's already), and most of the programs I've talked to have refused to give me much in the way of financial aid. I have pretty fucking amazing GRE scores, and they got me notice from a few places, but not enough to get grants/aid.

(Temple in particular was hilarious. They got my GRE scores, called me up and were all "COME DO YOUR MASTER'S WITH US PLZ". Which puzzled me greatly, because when I talked to them last February, they said they had zero financial aid available for MA students and I'd have to pay out of pocket. So I was all "okay, but I'd need financial aid", and they said "that's not a problem". Which made me go "a-buh? You told me I couldn't have any last February, and I'm still paying back my undergrad loans to you". And they went "...oh. Yeah, that's still true, sorry. But COME DO YOUR MASTER'S ANYWAY." *facepalm*)

And so we're back to the wanderlust. I'd love to teach in Vietnam for a year, but they want a CELTA (which will set me back *almost* as much as a grad school education). Korea would be nice again, and will certainly pay my bills, but the visa process got fifteen kinds of fucked up in the past year, so it'll take most of another year to slog through it. I'm looking strongly at going corporate and working for AEON in Japan, but they want you to pay your airfare, and that's $1000 I don't really have. And I'm tired of taking the cheap options that lead to really shitty jobs and me being miserable halfway around the world for six months (*cough* Georgia *cough*).

I don't know what I'm hoping to accomplish by this. I just needed to vent, I think, so I understand if everyone completely ignores this post.

brb running away to a foreign country, is this real life?, i won't teach and you can't make me
