So, a month and a half into this Georgia thing. It's been - shall we say - interesting. Here is the extremely-lengthy and personal account. Feel free to skip for mental health reasons.

It's all in the wrist, fire from the hip, talk a little shit . . . )

i can haz drink now?, is this real life?, running away to foreign countries

Wow! Very cool write-up. I've got a very clear picture of what you're doing and going through. I guess this is one job that's going to be what they call a 'character builder'. Ahaha. :)

SO much character building. It's also becoming such a first-world/third-world trigger, to be honest. I can't count the number of times I've wanted to strangle someone on my Facebook that I know IRL for acting like the world is going to end because they couldn't have their favorite hoagie for dinner. Do you know what I'd do for not only a Wawa around, with all its conveniences (fresh fruit and vegetables! actual coffee! a plethora of choices of what to eat, all made to order from the best ingredients!), but just a damn meatball hoagie (protein! cheese that isn't hard and salty! tomatoes!)?

:hugs: And wow, definitely interesting stories to tell later if nothing else (but still, hugs on the homesick for food things - let me know if I can send a care package that would help - it's not American food but I can send some things).

*hugs*

Definitely interesting. The drinking stories alone, hah.

Like I mentioned, Georgia has crappy post rules and while I'd love to get something, I'd have to pay 100 bucks and that's not something I could really afford right now.

You're having one heck of an enriching and intriguing experience over there, man - I hope everything goes along as smoothly as possible!

Thanks so much. It sounds condescending, but this is totally a "character-builder".

UGH I FORGOT TO COMMENT ON THIS, shame on me! But dude, this is so fascinating to read about *chinhands* Have you gotten more used to things by now? Hope things are more relaxed with your host family now at least :Dbb

Pfft, totally okay. We're both all kinds of busy.

I'm getting used to things; passed the "this is weird" stage of culture shock and am firmly in the "ugh, there is not a thing in this country which I do not hate" stage, but things are looking up. I had an excellent supra with my 9th graders for Love Day yesterday, and I'm heading to Comrade Stalin's birthplace of Gori tomorrow.

Host fam's okay. It's really a two steps forward, then three steps back thing with them, and it's usually over the food stuff.

Love Day sounds intriguing-- was this some school thing or generally a Georgian thing? And keep us posted on the glories of Comrade Stalin's birthplace!

Hope things continue to look up and you reach the "I am beyond all the bullshit and focusing only on the AWESOME" stage soon! <333
