Some of you may know this already, and some of you may not.
DJ Gobo (Sean) had been fighting cancer (leukemia and lymphoma) for about the last six months or so, and he passed away yesterday.
I called one of the girls in Santa Cruz yesterday to find out what happened. He passed away around 2 am yesterday morning. He was with his family, he'd been given medication by his dr., and so he wasn't in any pain. He drifted away very peacefully.
She told me they'd been able to raise enough money to help with some of his medical bills, and they'd even been able to fly him to Portland just last week, so he saw a lot more family up there. He got to go clubbing with Eric Lambart, and he even got to see Sinead! I thought that was awesome.
This might sound off, but I thought it so fitting that our most beloved gothic-industrial dj would leave us on Friday the 13th. There's a bit of irony in there somewhere...
This is a huge loss for the music scene and just for the pool of humanity in general. I respected Sean a lot. He was a kind soul. I'm going to miss that laugh and those beautiful eyes.
He was really the only person in the music scene that I said goodbye to outside of my circle of friends when I left CA. I emailed him and wished him well. He had big plans--he was talking about going back to school--I think he was considering becoming a caregiver full-time. He'd found out by accident that he really enjoyed working with people as a caregiver.
He wasn't sick yet when I'd left CA. I remember what he wrote when he answered me: "It's been an honor and a pleasure."
I can definitely say the same thing about Sean.
Rest in peace, darling boy.
