In the BeginningWhere on earth is Sulawesi? Formerly known as “Celebes,” one of the Spice Islands, Sulawesi lies east of Java and north of Bali, and is shaped like a lowercase “k” with the upper part of the long leg drooping forward. I'm so pleased you're writing about the trip! It sounds amazing already (and confusing - and weird). I love that there was someone with a horn sort...announcing the plane? Piping the passengers on and off deck?

I've not so recently developed a theory/internal motto that it does not matter how dorky I look as long as I have am having an experience. The dorkiness allowed is directly related to the bigness of the experience. I don't think you looked that dorky in the photos, though.

I'm looking forward to reading the rest of your travelogue :)

Hey, thank you! It was amazing and confusing and weird, but also magnificent. Not sure what was happening with the horn. I thought at first it was some kind of welcome thing, but everyone else seemed just as surprised by it as I was, so I guess it was just a random act of horn-blowing.

It's some kind of law that your Internal Dorkiness Perception is approximately your Actual Dorkiness cubed.

I'm going to try to post about one day of the trip at a time. The account isn't quite done yet and it's running to 15 pages already! (o.O)

Sorry I haven't been as present on LJ as I've wanted lately (been meaning to post this, for example, for ages!). I'm in the middle of a very stressful book project that seems to be going on and on, and is eating all my time and energy. Plus tension about radiation, aftershocks, and trying to organize to move at the end of May--well, I'm a bit overwhelmed.

Anyway, thanks for reading my travelogue.
