I saw my pain doctor this morning, and I actually saw him instead of the NP because the NP has apparently left the practice. Since I didn't like her as much as I like Dr. Z I was really okay with that. We talked about life stressors, including my mom, and how the migraines have been worsening in severity but not frequency. He didn't have a whole lot to offer me for the stress stuff, obviously, but recommended I try acupuncture again and gave me the name of an acupuncturist in Edmonds, so I'll give them a call later. He did say he is not going to increase the dosage of the oxycodone, which is fine; I have enough to get me through the month with a few left over most of the time.
What was interesting was that they offered me a genetic test to find out how well I metabolize different pain medication. Apparently it looks for a specific liver enzyme that will tell them if either I don't metabolize opiates well--so they wouldn't give me as much relief--or if I metabolize them too quickly, so I'd need more than an average person. It's covered by insurance, and it just involved a cheek swab, so I said sure. What reassured me about it is that although it may tell them the oxycodone doesn't work as well, they don't use the results of the genetic test to change my prescription. If I say the oxycodone is working fine for me, they'll continue with it. But if we need to change meds down the line or something this will help them out. I don't know why they've never offered to do this before but whatevs. The oxycodone usually works pretty well for me, so I'm not in any hurry to change the scrip.
So that's life in the head department. In about an hour and a half the handyman will be coming to install the pet door, woo, and then later this afternoon Buddy and I have a vet visit (boo) and then I'm taking him somewhere fun as a treat. Morgan and I are a bit concerned he has another yeast infection in his ear or both ears, and I had a couple other questions. He's been whining a lot lately, and he snores a lot, so I don't know if he's got a respiratory issue going on or if it's just normal behavior. It's also possible he needs another adaptil collar, the last one wore off a while ago and we haven't replaced it. So I'll ask.
Also seeking input on a concern Morgan and I have about the pet door--the whole purpose of it is to let him go into the backyard when we're not hone so he can go potty or just get some air. He loves hanging out in the backyard especially when it's sunny; he'll just stretch out in the sun and relax. But there are a lot of dogs around and people coming and going, and if he gets excited he starts barking. If he does this when we're home we call him inside, obviously, but if we're not home...I don't know what to do. Sometimes he starts barking because there are other dogs barking he can hear, so it's not like he's the only one in the area who makes noise, but I don't want him barking his head off all day and annoying our neighbors.
Thoughts welcome.
