I contacted a fencing company via Angie's List this morning to find out what it would take to fence the rest of our yard. The biggest problem we're going to have is that the side that isn't fenced doesn't lend itself well to being fenced, which is probably why it hasn't been done before. There's a shared driveway between the edge of our property and the next house (it goes to the reclaimer pond), and along that line we have a row of small trees/large bushes. But there's still a gap at the bottom of the property, and a dog could easily get through the bushes (they're planted close together but still). So I'm not quite sure what will be involved in fencing that side of the property. The other side just needs a gate; it's already fenced. Unfortunately Morgan and I will probably not be able to fence the rest of it with the same nice privacy fencing that's there now, but we can maybe redo it later.

We'll also need to find a dog-walking or doggie daycare service in our area for days like Monday. There is one doggie daycare I know of, but the hours don't work that well for us - drop off between 7am - 9am and pick up between 4pm - 6pm. Since we both start work before 7am, this is problematic, and at the moment both of us are working til 7pm on Mondays so that's also problematic (Morgan starts work at 10am Mondays now, so he could drop the dog off but we wouldn't be able to pick her up.)

So, things to consider. Last night we were talking a lot about where the dog's crate would go, and determined that the best spot for it would be right where Morgan's records currently sit. We need to store the records in something else anyway (right now they're in milk crates) but I've no idea what kind of something else we would need or where it would go. You'd think with a house our size we wouldn't have issues finding places to put things. Man, I wish we had a basement or an attic.

Question for those with more experience with rescues than me: Is it expected or appropriate to bring a treat/toy for the dog upon meeting him or her? I thought we could get a Booda bone for Miley before we see her tomorrow, but I've no idea if that's cool or not. I can't imagine why it would be a problem? But I don't know.

Also, what is the current thinking on dogs and rawhide treats? I remember learning when we had Lucky that rawhide wasn't good for dogs because it could damage their insides or something, so we stuck to Booda bones and other toys. But is that actually true? (Lucky never minded; he loved Booda bones.)

(Morgan and I had a good laugh last night talking about dogs and their love of Kongs stuffed with peanut butter. Dogs with peanut butter are universally hilarious. Dogs in general are often hilarious, but add peanut butter to it and it's brilliant.)

I did get pictures of a utility bill and our house number to the woman with Mocha last night, but still no word. I'm trying not to be annoyed, but argh. On the other hand, it's only 9am and people who don't have crazy work schedules might not be online until now or later.

Meanwhile, I got tired of never finding a phone charger cable when I needed one, so at the advice of a co-worker I went to Monoprice and ordered ten for $7. Much cheaper than picking them up in Walgreens, which is what I've been doing.

My phone did a weird thing yesterday - it was fully charged when I left for work, and I had it in my purse on the drive, but when I got in I discovered it was running super hot and the battery was down to 55%. I rebooted it and plugged it in and it's working fine now, but I don't know what that was all about. Random phone weirdness, I guess.

Only 3.5 hours to go and I'm done with work for the week!
