princess talk - lipstick spotlight

This isn't a cheap lipstick, so I realize it may not be to everyone's taste or budget. With that caveat in mind, let's talk about:

Guerlain Shine Automatique (link goes to Sephora).

Okay. To begin with, you can't go wrong with a Guerlain lipstick. You just can't. They have a bunch of variations, including but not necessarily limited to: Rouge Automatique, Shine Automatique, Rouge G, Rouge G L'Extrait, and Rouge G Le Brilliant. I don't own the Rouge G Le Brilliant, but I own at least one of each other type, and all of them are among my favorites. Guerlain knows how to do lipstick right (they also do gloss well from what I've been told but I don't own any; they have a new gloss that just launched that I want to own, though). (Guerlain also has a KissKiss lipstick, which I don't own).

The Shine Automatique is similar to the Rouge Automatique, but the SA is a little more lightweight and slippery and has a shine/sparkle finish. It is incredibly hydrating and comfortable to wear--I keep one in my laptop bag at work and often wear it in place of lip balm, and my lips have never complained. The case is pretty cool, with the way you only need one hand to operate it, and it's easy enough to apply I can usually do it without a mirror (although I tend to check after to make sure I did okay).

I love, love, love these lipsticks. I own six full-size and one mini that was a GWP (and I intend to buy the full size of that). They range in color from very, very subtle to pretty bright, but they all have a sparkly/shne finish that I really like. Some of them are more sheer than others, but they can all be layered. Guerlain says: Guerlain introduces Shine Automatique, a moisturizing and long-lasting lipstick that combines bold color with pearly particles to give your lips discreet yet exceptional shine. I don't know about long-lasting, really, but nothing lasts on me.

The ones I have:

#202, Mi-Mai. This is a very, very neutral brown; if I put it on it really doesn't look like anything other than healthy color and shine. I like it *because* it's so neutral; some days you just don't want much.
#262, Extrait de Rose. This is the mini one I have, and it's a bright pink but looks really good on me. I was afraid of it because it's so bright, but I can actually wear it.
#263, A La Parisienne. This is the first one I bought, and it's a really pretty bright coral. I like it because it just brightens everything up, and it's a great summer color--I wore mine a lot last summer then put it away, but I think now it's time to take it out again.
#264, Rose Pompon. This is the one I keep in my laptop bag. It's a very neutral plum, MLBB with a bit of sparkle. It's great for work, especially if you work in a conservative office.
#265, Pao Rosa. Darker plum than Rose Pompon, more of a plum-berry-burgundy color. Not *too* dark, it's not what I'd call vampy, but it's more intense than Rose Pompon.
#760, Lou-Ling. This was one of the LEs released with Guerlain's holiday collection. It's a plum-raspberry with gold sparkle, and one of my favorites. Temptalia has a review here.
#761, Flirt. This was an LE release this spring, I don't know if it's still available in stores. I don't see it on Nordstrom's website (interestingly, I do see two new ones that are probably releases for the summer launch). It's a fuschia with fuschia shimmer, and it's also one of my faves.

At $35 each, these aren't cheap, and I recognize they may be outside some folks' budgets. It's taken me a while to acquire the ones I have, and I've spent birthday and Hanukkah money on them along the way. I love the combination of sparkle and color and the moisturizing formula, and I don't know if there's anything about them I'd change. I really really recommend them, if you have the money to spend.

A note on the Rouge Automatiques - I only own one of these, #600 (Ballade), also from the spring launch. It's a similar formula without the sparkle and with a bit more creamy feel to it. The case is the same, though. It's also a great formula, and I'd recommend it if you'd rather not have the sparkle/shimmer finish. The price is the same as the SA.
