Snowpocalypse 2008!

Dec 18, 2008 23:27

After coming back from Canada on Tuesday afternoon, I made a point of getting back to my apartment at UW before that night. The forecast was for snow, and I wanted to make it back in time to see a snowy campus. The forecasters were massively wrong due to the Olympic Mountains and their 'precipitation shadow', so Wednesday turned out to be pretty boring. (The Olympic Mountains are On Notice FYI) Starting around 3 AM this morning, however, it started to snow really hard. I was asleep at the time, but just before 6 AM there was a ridiculously massively loud thunder, also noticed by many people other than me.

I didn't really get out of bed until 9, but by that time I had already decided to go out and have some fun. In the morning I wandered around campus for a taking pictures. It was less of a ghost town than expected, mainly because UW Seattle was somehow on a normal schedule-still got some good pictures, though. For lunch I decided to head down to the Ivars under I-5 and get some chowder. This was my best decision in a while, since almost nothing beats chowder in cold weather. From there I went by Gasworks, Fremont, and Wallingford in a giant loop towards UW (all pictures are on Facebook HERE!), making a point of stopping by the Fremont and Wallingford libraries on the way, to make some progress on my Seattle Public Libraries passport project (which will be posted about once it's done). At Fremont library I ran into the guy who was trying to run to run 60 miles to every library in one day-they changed up the library hours, so sadly he didn't accomplish that.

Tomorrow I head back to Bellevue via bus, which should be an adventure. It got at least eight inches to a foot today, more at the tops of hills. Sunday even more snow is predicted, for which I am excited. This year's Snowpocalypse continues, and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

thunder, library passport, snowpocalypse, snow
