Marie-Joan Dutreuil was the first person I knew at Stevens. I met her when I came for a day of classes and events...you basically follow a student around...and so I was following her around. She was so nice and personable and even though Stevens wasn't her first choice for school having met her made me feel better about my decision. Then when I came to Stevens we would run into each other on campus all the time. We saw even more of each other when I got involved in the ECE and the IEEE. For the longest time she was the only other female computer engineering student I knew at Stevens (we are very very few and far between). She was always willing to help me out, give suggestions, or answer questions I had about CpE stuff. She was such a good person. I can't boast that I was her best friend, but she is someone I will always remember in the best of ways. MJ just graduated from Stevens and would have turned 23 on July 19th, but I was just told tonight that she passed away two days ago in a Jet Ski accident in Florida. I can't believe the news. I can't believe that I will never run into her again as she rushes off somewhere across campus stopping long enough to stop, smile, and have a quick conversation with me as I am running somewhere as well. The IEEE and ECE meetings will have an extra empty chair. More than that though, there will be an empty spot in my heart. I will miss you MJ - so many of us will miss you. May you rest in peace and know that you will always be loved and remembered.
