You want knowledge.
A disturbing itchiness inside you that leaves you breathless, the moment you stumble upon a question and you don’t know the answer.
Maybe that’s what a prince like.
And now you want to know what love is.
There’s a glimmer of akin to grief inside your mentor’s eyes as you ask him.
It takes only a love for one’s heart to break. Pieces by pieces, it’s a promise of a shattered seal.
He warns, a roar of caution, but you’re aware of his shaking fingers, one to glide over a carved name inside his thick old book, his eyes on you.
It hurts so much that you want to forget.
He breathes in, his back facing you the next blink, voice poignant.
And you do forget.
You watch.
There’s a dark figure behind him and you tuck yourself deeper under the solace of the shadow.
Love is vindictive, so hold your armour.
The figure says and fades away a moment later, leaving him shoulders defeated, frameless.
A dying heart isn’t one to heal.
He whispers with such misery that your heart throbs. It hurts.
The dark figure is the King, your father.
He disappears the next day, no traces of him except for the thick old book in the centre of the wrecked attic tower.
You cry.
The carved name in his thick old book is yours.
It hurts.
It’s you who choose to forget.
