howdy ya'll!
oh my gosh! last night was soooooo fun. so so so so fun.
so I've been learning how to line dance with Adri, La, Jules, and some other girls (Liz, Kara, Misha, Sam, Lauren) and Billy and McMahon. well the whole reason we were learning was because the Dr. Tony Charity Event this year was a HOE DOWN! haha ... a Spring Round-Up! Last year it was a "Spring Fling!" and we did 40s, 50s, and 60s. So this was my third (and last! so sad) Dr. Tony event to volunteer at. OH, Dr. Tony is an amazing man who runs a hogar (home) for poor Peruvian children who need serious medical attention. He takes them in and gives them whatever help they need, and so our church supports him and many other people and each year they run this charity even to raise money for him.
so Vicki wanted us to learn to line dance and do a demonstration at the party cuz they were flying in a band from Montana! the band was called Shodown and they were SO coool. they were hilarious man. they reminded me of the guys from the Blue Collar Comedy tour. yea so we had fun talking to them and laughing. when they were doing soundchecks we were practicing our line dances and then the guitarist started singing Big and Rich's "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" adn Adrienne and I were like AHH GREAT SONG! haha we LOVE country music so we just were having a blast.
so Adri, La, Jules, Sam, Lauren, McMahon and I were all at the Swissotel early yesterday to help set up and do practices w/ the band. then Adri, La, and Jules came back to my house and we ate some pizza and got ready and Liz came. then we went back to the Swissotel at 7:30, and did some practicing w/ everyone. then we had to start helping seat people which was really frustrating cuz the tables were in NO order and they didnt give us any diagrams! the other kids were selling raffle tickets or sitting around. omg I wore my awesome tan leather boots but my feet were so sore. um...so things were running behind, because this is Peru, and so we were spose to dance after dinner, and be done by 10, but we actually didn't go on until 10;15, and Liz and Kara and Misha were getting antsy cuz they had to go somewhere else. and I was getting frustrated and liz was annoying me cuz she was like 'ALWAYS SMILE. even when things are frustrating.' and I was like OMG BITE ME!
so we got out there, on the dance floor, in front of FOUR HUNDRED people. and we did three dances - we did the Flying Eight, which is a faster, more complicated one. its' really cool cuz we get to do stomps and skips and such. then we did the Cowboy Boogie, and then the Electric Slide. after we did the Electric Slide we went and chose "random" (we'd actually been assigned people) and took them on the floor to dance. I got Mr. Wagner up to dance. Mmm...then we did another dance that Liz had taught people. I'd never done it becuz I was resisting it for many reasons...but I went out there and danced it even tho i didn't know it, but I picked it up alright.
mm then we fiddled around...we taught people how to line dance out in the lobby. I was teaching Ed, Daniel, and Lisa. Ed's an older guy, him and his wife, Sara, are good friends of ours, and Daniel is a good friend of Ed's and I know him cuz he came on this wedding trip that I went on. Ed was like "Rebekah is my 'amor joven' (young love)." and Daniel was like "No, she is MY young love too!" and Ed's like "NO, I dont want to share her!" haha they're so weird. and Ed is good for my ego, he was telling me how good I looked out there, and he told my parents they had trouble on their hands cuz I had the sexy hair in my face, and the pout going on, and I could dance. haha so great.
mmm then we tried selling more raffle tickets but it was like 11:00 and everyone was dancing and some people were SO DRUNK. there were so many smashed people. then I was standing w/ Adrienne, listening to the band and watching people dance...
AND I SO TOTALLY DANCED W/ A HOTT GUY! hahah...I'd never danced with a guy, other than my dad! (who I danced with last night!! yay) but when I was just chilling w/ Adri, Julia Plunkett, this Chinese woman, came up draggin lauren (who is 14) and was trying to get her to dance with this guy who had been sitting behind Adri and me. well Lauren's MORTIFIED and was like "No, I dont dance, its fine, no no no!" and he was like "Yea, I don't dance either." but then he started talking to us and he was soo cute. he was asking about why we lived her and stuff...and then he eventually asked how old we were and Lauren's like oh I'm 14 and I said I was 17. and he's like "Oh I'm old." haha but I would say that the oldest he could've been was 30, and he was prolly younger than that. but he was hear on business. and he's not married! haha Lauren was like "ARE YOU HERE WITH YOUR WIFE?" cuz we were having to yell at each other since it was so loud. then we were all singing Sweet Home Alabama, and Laura and Adrienne and Jules went on the dance floor, and Lauren had left, and it was me and this guy - whose name is Mike - and so I was like "Do you want to dance?" and he said "sure!" so we went out and I thought I'd see Adri and La and go dance with them but they were gone! so I was just like dancing with Mike all by myself!!! haha and I wasn't nervous at all...he talked to me and I made him laugh! he was commenting on how enthusiastic everyone was and I said "well I think a few of them are drunk..." and he laughed really hard. then after the song ended he was talking to me until laura came up and said we had to go...then he like touched my arm and shook my hand. I invited him to church and he said he might come some time!! cuz he cant come tomorrow cuz thye're going to Arequipa for business but they might come back in two or three months and he said he might come then. but we walked away and Laura said "Wow, he was really liking you! he was like glued to your side!" ahah I was like UM NO! but it was nice all the same. :)
eww sorry this so long but I like to talk...
oh but after the pary we went to laura's and watched Pocahontas and Pocahontas II, and stayed up itll 6:30 in the morning. cuz we didnt get home till like 1:30. and we stopped at Starbucks on the way home. and people laughed at us cuz our outfits for the night were boots, blue jeans, big belts (I had on a massive brown one w/ this big belt buckle that said Texas) and white collared shirts, and cowboy hats. :D
