Let's compare some Brainiacs
One of the interesting things about Vril and Lyrl, when you compare them, is that Vril is a winner with a 10th level intellect, and Lyrl is a fucker-upper with a 12th level intellect. Vril can beat Brainiac, he can beat Lyrl, and he has. Cunning. Cunning and daddy issues.
Say you have something you need to get from the other side of a nigh-invulnerable wall. Most people would try to go over, under or around it. But Lyrl would say "Fuck you, wall! I'm a Brainiac!" and destroy the whole damn thing. Even though that might be the worst way to get around the wall. Lyrl wields his intellect like a hammer and doesn't think deeply into which solution is best. He's smart enough to use any solution and arrogant enough to believe he'll think of something if anything goes wrong. He doesn't plan. Vril, on the other hand, will probably have gotten the object before anyone else knew it was a factor because he puts real thought into things. Vril might also be the least arrogant Brainiac, keeping him from underestimating situations.
Of course, this means that when Vril does something stupid like putting a baby in charge of admin, I'm annoyed and disappointed. But when Lyrl screws up, I like him more. And Lyrl screws up most of the time.
