I met the Puerto Rican side of Joe's family this weekend at his cousin's quinceañera. It was a very interesting cultural experience. I had no idea quinceañeras were tied to the Catholic Church. The woman sits on a chair at the center of the altar all throughout the mass. A tiara and clear shoes are taken up with the gifts and blessed by the priest. The woman is then presented to the altar and the Virgin Mary by the parents and the godparents. The service was very interesting.
Joe's family seemed to like me a lot. They taught me some cooking, some dancing, and teased Joe and I about being together. We fell asleep on the couch while watching a Star Trek movie, and we didn't hear the end of it the next day. 500 pictures. Lots of teasing. Smiles.
