[That didn't stop him from knowing where it was. Leon didn't share the knowledge. Didn't step too far. He lingered where the cobblestone was still whole, treading only so far. Half out of the instinct to leave "Kamui" to his 'fit'. To his sour mood. Let him sit there with it, if he was going to be immature. Would have been hypocritical of him. And as casually as possibly?

He leaned against the rise of a wall with arms folded tightly to his own chest, jaw working for a moment at the harsh look. Trepidation mixed with his own lingering contempt (objectify me, fine, see if I care-- except that was a lie, too). So he swallows it and instead tries to find the right way to try and put what he wanted to in words.

The disdain doesn't scare him. "Kamui" doesn't scare him. The strange loss does.

There were a hundred ways he'd thought of trying to put it. Leon could have said inifinite things, and he still doubted it'd matter, trying to be careful with it. Words had never been his forte, linger in a long silence, not even wincing at the sound of cobblestone shattering with a force that he's seen, before. "Kamui" wasn't God, whoever, whatever God was. "Kamui" was a kid.

And Leon had been naive.

How strange, the continued thought of 'probably not even human' that would run right through the back of his mind.]

You don't have to talk to me... [A terrible start, really.] But will you at least listen to me for a second?

[It has an effect on "Kamui" all right-- the message has been received. And more. "Kamui" being "Kamui", he knows what Leon's intentions are, because of his wants, those things that are as clear as day to him.

He wants to talk.

"Kamui" doesn't. That's one thing Leon has right. And it starts up a beat at the back of his head, feeling all of these... things. From him. Like wandering through a huge crowd of people, except it's all from just one person. He closes his eyes for a few seconds, willing away the beginnings of a headache.]

Fine. Come in.

[It's better to let him in than to allow people to spot Leon and in turn himself and his half-made sanctuary, and then spread the word about someone making a small garden.

"Kamui" washes his hands off in the water, and dries them off on his trousers. No need to have the dirt all over his hands as he talks.]

[Leon isn't going to tread too far. Isn't going to cross into that not-quite garden to the point that it's uncomfortable-- for him or for "Kamui". But he can't exactly ignore the invitation, either.

A breath. Slow and strong.]

(Here goes...)

I'm sorry.

[Maybe it could have been a little less terse, and maybe Leon should have tried a bit harder to look "Kamui" in the eye. Maybe. His pride can only really stand for so much, trying to bend it when stubbornness didn't want to allow.

But he at least watches "Kamui"'s hands, if nothing else, in an attempt at swallowing it down, mouth twisting with brows into a scowl, hands at his sides. Tense.

Some part of him doesn't really expect a reaction out of it. The rest?

The rest is wondering if the kid will just brush it off.]

["Kamui" sees the lack of eye contact. "Kamui" follows the line of sight till he realizes just where Leon is looking at, and he tucks his hands into his pockets.]

My eyes are up here.

[Lips thin, because he's annoyed. In his mind, you cant apologize without looking into someone's eyes. It's important. Forgiveness is a luxury given only to those who are sincere, and eye contact helps establish that.

Which makes this unacceptable.]

[It takes a moment. To look at him. At eyes that glow (and Leon hasn't ever once forgotten, really, that they do that, it just doesn't bother him as much as it used to, if ever at all anymore), gunmetal into gold, with a sense of hesitation that likely didn't belong. But his lips are pressed into a thin, almost-white line. Not because of irritation, but because he wants to say something more, for once.

Something like it shouldn't matter and maybe you're right, I wasn't listening.

Leon's just not quite ready for it, though, to let it go, when some part of him thinks that maybe he shouldn't be the only one to apologize. Less to do with being wrong as being wronged. Not that he'd say so.

How petty was it, letting such simple insults sting like that? Even now?

And exhale, to shove it out of his mind.]

[Leon wants to what? Say something, but what? He cant read it. Well, he can, but at the same time cant, because it's just a huge jumble of everything.

"Kamui" almost opens his mouth, but then stops right when his jaw goes slack, because he realizes that he has nothing to say.

... No, that's not right. It's not that he has nothing to say, but he doesn't know what to say.

He lets the silence drag on for a few more minutes before:] What else do you want to tell me?

[He can feel the distinct pressure of annoyance cropping up-- more so because it shouldn't annoy him so much, right?

Still, Leon holds his gaze, a moment long, a breathe, because some part of that just grates.]

I said I was sorry. [What else was there to say about it, anyways?

Leon doesn't expect "Kamui" to really feel like he needs to say anything back about it, all things considered.]

["Kamui" moves closer, slowly, until he's just a few feet away from Leon, but feet still firmly on the dirt ground and not the stones. Keeping his distance from... well, something. A something that he doesn't want to look at, and yet impossible to ignore.

Not Leon, but in himself.

Stupid, trying to get away from something that cant be measured by any physical means, but "Kamui"'s done fine so far, being like this, denying himself what it truly means to be human.]

Leon, [he says, as if he's testing the name again. Like before, when they'd first met.]

I heard you. [(he's not deaf)] But isn't there anything else?
