What I did this weekend by: Kelly Blue

So this weekend was without a doubt THE most romantic weekend of my life. Friday started out as any normal friday would... I went to class, went to work, so on and so on. Then, around 4, I was talking to Barb and she and I devised a plan for suprising Dan with a date furnished by me. I left work at 4, went to Kwik King, and ordered a Kwikie Club for us, each half having what ther person would want. Then, I called Dan and told him that I'd be picking him up at 5ish and he needed to be ready. He had no clue what was going on. So, I took a shower and prettied up, packed a few essentials in the car, i.e. blanket and plasticware, among others, and I went to Dan's to pick him up. I had him bring his Love Songs and Lullabies CD by Jim Brickman that I bought him last Valentines' Day, I blindfolded him, and loaded him and the CD into my car. At first, Dan knew exactly where we were going. As he grew cockier, however, I thought of more and more ways to confuse him, and after about five minutes of driving, he was lost. We were in the hospital parking lot. So, I drove him around everywhere for fifteen minutes before deciding that we would picnic at Mt. Calvary cemetery. At first, I was leary because of his Grandfather being there, mainly, but I decided to set up camp right outside the cemetery. So, I finally unblindfolded him after I pulled him up the hill to the set-up picnic, and we enjoyed a peaceful evening eating outdoors. After dinner, we visited his familys' grave, and headed to the mall to kill some time. We walked around aimlessly for a short time before deciding to look at rings (my favorite pastime!!) We first window browsed, and then we went in to Zale's because he knew a girl that worked there and they were bored. So, we played the "Dan, if you had to walk into this store and pick out a ring, which one would you choose?" game. He chose well, and then I showed him which ones I would have chosen. So, I tried a few on to amuse the saleswomen, and then Dan brought up looking at male rings. So, we did, he tried some on, and when we left the store, he admitted that he now loves ring shopping. We're wistful like that, I guess. Then, we went to Bob Evan's to eat again before returning home for a nice evening together.

Saturday was a lazy day in the a.m. I worked at 1 and I found out while at BBW that my grandfather was available to see us. So, at 5, Daphne, Dan, Mom, Rick, and myself packed into the Sebring and headed up to Cranberry, PA to see him and his s.o. He got us Starbucks gift cards which was generous, and treated us to dinner. Dan felt priviledged because he is the only boyfriend that's gotten to meet my Grandpa Dave. I guess on the way home, he was stewing some thoughts around in his head, and once we got home, we decided to go to Heavenly Grounds. We called Sean to hang out since he's a little lonely, to say the least, and so we got some drinks and walked around campus for a few to see what was going on. Obviously, the answer to that question was nothing, and we then headed to my house to watch some t.v. before Sean left. Dan didn't know but that CD he had lent me made its way into my CD player in my room, and I suprised him by lighting candles and playing the CD later on. He was extremely touched, and I suprised myself, I think.

Sunday, I got up and went to church with Dan's parents. Dan was singing in the choir so I didn't get to see him during mass. Afterwards, Sarah and I stood outside waiting for Dan, and once we realized he was preoccupied with Atilio the Hun, we went to their house instead. We ate a scrumptious Sunday Italian dinner and then lazed around the house before Sarah, Patsy, and I went to Lowe's and Wal-mart. Dan was supposed to meet us after he put sheets on his bed, but didn't arrive until we were done at Wal-mart. It took him a long time, but I thought nothing of it. We went back to Skiviats' and then Dan and I went to my house so I could make out a schedule for my mom. Sean Sanborn called us and we made plans to hang out with him and Elise in the evening. We met them in the J.C. and rented The Bone Collector and went to my house to watch it. During the beginning, I was lying on my right side as I always do with my hand under my head. Dan was lying behind me and he kind of grabbed my right hand and was holding it before playing with my ring finger, as he finds enjoyment doing. At one point, he put this ring on my finger, which, I thought at the time, was my Grandmother's ring, and so I kind of said to him, "You bastard" before looking at my finger. Needless to say, the look on my face was one of shock when I found this:

Come to find out, Elise and Sean had been in on it and I quickly realized that Dan wasn't slow at making his bed, he was just sly at buying me nice gifts. He quickly broke the news to me that I would get it when I quit smoking entirely. :( That kind of disappointed me, but I WAS the one that said I would if I got a ring... So, yeah. Opened my mouth too soon. Anyways, today was one of extreme uncomfort and anguish as I fought the urges to light up. I did well today, as far as it goes, and only had 2, so that's progress in the right direction. It's absolutely killing me, however that I know it's right outside my grasp. Like, I want to cry because I want it so bad...

Back to last night... I called Dan after I dropped him off at home after taking Sean and Elise back to campus and we discussed the pretenses of the ring. It's a "promise ring" of sorts. I promise to quit smoking. He promises that further things will come. As if we didn't know, but it means so much to me to have that little constant reminder in my sights. I will be so elated the day I can look down and see that on my finger and know exactly why I have it... because someone loves me. :-D

So that's enough for now. Sorry it's so long, but it was an exciting weekend, what can I say?!
