a lovely thyme

In the botanic gardens today I felt so happy, around me were people taking an actual interest in plants, children asking their parents questions about tropical rainforests.
It is strange that such a beautiful, peaceful place is in the middle of a bustling town.

We pressed some Jade Vine flowers that had fallen, into the pages of Alan Bennet's writing home. The Jade vine is amazing, its colour is so bright it looks almost artificial. Bats pollinate it by hanging upside down to drink the nectar. The image pleases me as the flowers really do look quite vampiric.

I paddled in a little stream, to sooth my hot feet, and walked about barefoot amongst the daisies. I miss having a garden of my own so much. As I keep on saying in all my entries! We saw a kitten stuck in a tree so it was duly rescued. What a pretty thing too, silvery with white eyebrow markings. I would love to be a cat and have gardens like that as my territory.
I also saw a frog, my first frog of the year, hopping in some reeds in a wetland garden area. Damsel flies were about, sun bathing. No man made dyes have the same impact as the colour of a blue damsel fly.

The day was so warm, I wore my purple tea dress and straw hat. On the way to the gardens I bought Virginia Woolf's between the acts, from a church sale. I wanted to buy Lady chatterly's lover just so I could tell people I bought it in a church.. :D
