i'm fairly certain i may have run into a celebrity this morning.
i've heard this happens regularly in LA. Los Angeles is, after all, a giant glowing vending machine of commercially packaged stars.
this guy fit the bill: designer clothing, designer haircut with specialized coloring (it was very nicely done), big diamond jewelry (but i guess everyone has those these days), very slim (which is not uncommon here because THEY HIDE ALL THE GROCERY STORES FROM YOU), great teeth, great skin, "well-aged" features (which in LA translates to "great plastic surgery") and when he walked into starbucks, everyone said hello (which IS starbuck's gimmick, but when he talked, everyone paused to listen and my americano took the back burner to his skim milk latte.)
i have no idea who it was because i don't follow mainstream media, nor do i really care WHO is playing those hip little tunes that are coming out of my ipod earbuds. he looked familiar, and i may have talked to him except that i had just woken up in my car, had not brushed my teeth nor had a shower, and you just don't talk to celebrities in LA. it's the rules!
but who ever it was, he was very nice. very polite. happiness poured out of him and sprinkled on to me, and if i see him on a poster or a tv someday, i'll nudge who ever is next to me and say, "that dude held the door open for me once when i lived in LA!" and then i'll be cool.
