Warning: to avoid long-winded horse babble, skip to paragraph 4.
In my lovely draft horse class today, we learned how to harness a horse. I worked with Colonial (why they would give the largest horse to one of the shortest people in the class to practice on is beyond me, but he's sweet so w/e). Considering we must have put harnesses on and off the three horses we used today half a hundred times, I thought they were rather patient. Anyway, it's not like it's a hard concept: do it once and you get the hang, as long as there is a step-stool to use and a person on the off-side to catch harness parts as you throw them over the horse's back.
Colonial apparently likes to untie himself. (Sounds like another horse I know...) We had this one beginner girl who kept tying him up and he kept on undoing the knot. It was quite comical. After he untied himself for the fifth time, I did show her another knot to use that the horse can't get undone but will still release in an emergency. We also watched this movie on harnessing, hitching, and driving in which this crazy old man tells wild stories about something (he's pretty incomprehensible), and they go over the parts of the harness and such. (This is a belly band. It goes under the belly. Ooo.)
Though I must say I miss Cathy Crowley's place (where Baxter is) on days like this. She has a heated barn. It was -1 degree out this morning. I've come to appreciate the heated barn (even though it's a tad fancy and up-tight there for my taste). And although draft horses are better than no horses by a long shot, I miss riding. I did get a progress report on Baxter from Marcia the other day: as soon as I left, he decided he wants to be a circus pony and buck, kick, rear, and generally carry on. Why do I think this is more due to Marcia letting the horse get away with whatever he wants to than the horse actually misbehaving... If she is going to hunt him this summer, she's going to have to take charge a little more. Or sell him and get a big old draft-cross who doesn't do anything (but what fun is that?). :) So, enough babble about horses.
Yesterday was fun yet utterly unproductive. I sat in Katie's dorm room all day and watched most of the first season of Angel with her. Then I skipped my PVMA meeting (who wants to learn about medical ethics, anyway?) and came home. Read for a little bit, played around online, half-watched American Idol (my roomie had it on). That's about it.
Today, when I go down to the caf to get some lunch, I shall attempt to get myself a job. I do not want a job. I really don't want a job working with food. Got enough of that after two years of Subway. Yet I have no money. Therefore, I need a job. And the cafeteria is close. I don't even have to leave my dorm. So I suppose I can suck it up and work there. It's just until I get a real job this summer, anyway.
I have, at this point (may change; I'll keep you posted), decided to find a close-to-full-time job over the summer (30-35 hours a week?) while taking a couple of classes at Lansing Community College, since it is cheaper than taking them at MSU. I will finish off my math requirements that way, and hopefully my IAH (Integrative Arts and Humanities) requirements as well, depending on what MSU will accept from them as transfer credits. This does not change the apartment arrangement in East Lansing, of course. That's another thing on the to-do list: go visit the apartment and find out what day Katie and I are allowed to move in. I know it's sometime in May, but the exact date escapes me.
As for the rest of today, I have one more class, then I will probably go swimming, come home and study. Then sleep. I have an 8am class again tomorrow, so my goal is to be in bed around 11:30 so I will get to sleep by 2, which gives me about 5 hours of sleep-just enough to make it to chem lab tomorrow morning and fall asleep there.
::end of really long and babbling post::
