Oh, god. I don't have TIME to write about it all, but it was the best trip to my parents that I've ever had. Nothing spectacular or anything, just... nothing bad, which is so good. I have a couple pictures, too. And a great video of John using ever single floatation device in the pool (about 10 noodles, 3 kickboards, and an "aqua hammock" thingy).
In case you can't tell by my "what my iPod was playing" thing, I got all of John's music onto my iPod, and I'm keeping track of all the songs I hear all day, not just the ones while writing this entry, so that's why there's so much. I now have 9779 songs on my iPod! Karyn knows why that number is so exciting. Also exciting? I pulled into John pulled into the driveway at the end of our trip with my car at EXACTLY 25000 miles!
Anyway... let me try to do this in order, and I'll try to make it short, but at the same time record everything I want to remember... this will be difficult :)
Thursday
I found out via a phone call on Thursday that they were going to start working on my garage roof on Monday. Which meant I had to get John's sofa out of the garage. I think I wrote about that? Anyway, it was raining when I got home, I quickly packed my bags and went to pick up John and we moved the sofa into the house in the rain. Not fun.
John wanted to bring champaign, so we stopped at the gas station to get ice for my cooler (he was willing to drink warm champaign when we got to the hotel. I wasn't.). they were out of ice, so we had to go through the drive-through. While it in, we realized that we had no way of playing the iPod in the car (long story, that's not worth going over), so I suggested we drive to Target and pick up a cheap FM transmitter that didn't require anything being loaded onto the iPod, and one that would work with his laptop, too. So, we find one for playing in the tape deck, and I say "why not this?" "because you don't have a tape deck?" "yes I do!" "where?" "in my car!" "*sigh* yeah, but WHERE? Is it hidden? I've never seen it?" "No, silly, it's not hidden, it's right in plain view!" "In the stereo?" "yeah!" "you don't have a tape deck." "really? I really thought I did..." "well. ok, since you're so insistent, buy it, and if you don't have a tape deck, you can return it in CT." "k." The whole way out to the car I'm teasing him, all "I SO have a tape deck." Yeah. I don't have a tape deck.
So, we had to listen to CDs. Luckily, he brought a lot. Even though his music tasts are really different than mine, and there was only one song (Every New Day by Five Iron Frenzy) that I could sing along to the whole trip.
I drove for about 3 hours or so, then we ate a late dinner at McDonalds (where John got a piece of Chicken that he almost broke his teeth on trying to bite it. But it didn't ruin the entire trip like it would have for Ted, he just said "gross" and put it back in the box, and that was that. I'm still amazed by such simple little things like this) and John drove.
He wanted to stop, I wanted to keep going (the further we got on Thursday, the later we could wake up on Friday - we had to be there by 1PM). Well, we got stuck in traffic. For an hour and a half. So, I felt kinda bad for convincing him to drive farther. He gets a little road rage-y. Which freaked me out, I HATE that. but I just didn't respond to anything he said and he eventually calmed down, and never took anything out on ME. So. That was good. Anyway, what was also good, when we got off at the exit, it was all under construction and confusing, and we got lost, so he stopped at a gas station to get directions. I just love how friendly he is with strangers, he saw some guy giving directions to a girl, so he said "Hey, you seem to be like a man in the know, how do we get to the Holiday Inn?", and the guy offered to lead us so we could follow and John was all "thanks, man!" I dunno, just his tone and attitude, his ability to talk to strangers, and not be all nervous, and be really friendly. I dunno. It's a turn on for me, what can I say?
So, we get to the hotel, and drink champaign out of plastic hotel cups and rent porn and have sex twice. WE didn't even get into the hotel until midnight, so I don't think we got to bed until 2:30 or so.... and woke up at 7. Ugggghhhh.
Friday
I drove more than John did on Friday, as well, but no biggie. We stopped at McDonalds again, this time for breakfast. We went to the drive through, and the exact words of the drive through lady when she handed us our drinsk were "adafdd agondn doiinng", to which I said "excuse me?" and she replied with "asdfahkdh hapsokkd eanndogh" "oh, ok." and then turned to John, "what'd she say?" "I think she said to park and our food'd be out." "oh, ok." So, I parked, and watched about four cars happily get their food from the drive through. I went inside where our food was waiting for us. wtf? I have no idea what that was about. I'm guessing she didn't tell us to park, but. whatevs. Wasted time.
Which, of course, John made up with his speeding. heh.
We were still a little late, getting there about 1:20 and we left to go to Shady Glen, home of the best cheeseburgers in the world:
I didn't take that picture, but I realize I talk about the wonders of Shady Glen every time I go to CT, but I've never shown you the cheesburgers, which are amazing. John, of course, the pickiest eater in the world, doesn't eat beef, so he didn't get a cheeseburger, but did get the fried cheese on its own. yummmmmminess. They also have amazing homemade ice cream, so we bought two half-gallons (mint chocolate chip for me, chocolate chip cookie dough for him)
We got back and John and I swam in the pool (my parents have a very nice in-ground heated pool, but it certainly didn't need heating when I was there!). Later that night, we all watched The Rookie while eating cheese & crackers and chips & dip, and drinking the bottle of wine that John brought (and made himself). It was good.
Saturday
I let John sleep in while my dad went and got us cinnamon sticks for breakfast. I woke him up with directions on how to fend for himself and my parents and I went to two different outlet malls and out to lunch. I bought new refills for my air filter thingy and a jean skirt from The Gap (I forgot to pack a pair of shorts, so all I had with me was one pair of shorts that I actually liked, and so I needed something else to wear), and my parents bought me two cow spotted utensils for my kitchen. Oh, we went to Target, too, I think? Yes, we did. And my mom bought me big plastic containers to replace all the cardboard boxes I have storing stuff in my basement, so I don't need to worry about water damage (a lot of stuff got ruined when my bathroom flooded those two times).
John sent me a text message while I was making my way back through the outlet mall trying to find where I left my Gap bag. heh. Anyway, he wanted to know if he should wait for me to get back before getting in the pool, and I said of course! so, we swam when I got back.
For dinner, my dad cooked hamburgers (and a hot dog for John) on the grill, and we had macaroni salad (my favorite!) and two types of Jello salad. My dad also made chocolate cookies with white chips and macedamia nuts for John and I, and omg, were they good.
I don't think we did anything else exciting that night. This might be the day that we taught John how to play both the dice game and SkipBo. Big games in my family.
Sunday
My parents went to church in the morning, so while they were there I crawled into bed with John for a bit, he had a very strict "no touching my weiner when we're in the same state as you parents" rule, so I didn't get any sort of action. It was around this day that John started complaining, though, that he could FEEL the backup of sperm from not jacking off at all. ha.
We left John alone again (he had a lot of reading he needed to do for school. He's, like, a week away from graduating now) while we went to Kohls and Bed, Bath and Beyond (I asked John if he needed anything while we were gone, and he told me to get some coffee mugs at BB & B, a joke from our first date, which I'm sure none of you remembered, but I thought it was cute)
My mom bought me a comforter set for the spare bedroom. Oh, excitment! Actually, I really like it, it's all yellow stripes, and includes the comforter, bedskirt, sheets, pillow shams and pillow cases:
Came back, and swam (shock). Hung out with the 'rents while we played around with my iPod. The problem was, I hadn't downloaded iTunes since reformatting my computer, so I had to do that, and then we had trouble getting it to recognize all the music on my hard drive, which included my music AND his music, since he had loaded all his on there before we left. Plus, when I tried syncing the MooPod, it got mad because the last time it was synced was on a Mac, so I had to reformat the MooPod, too! AND the last stuff I downloaded (the Wicked soundtrack) wasn't in my iTunes anymore! So I had to write an email to iTunes, who granted said songs nd I got them the next day. Anyway, it was all a MESS! So, we worked on that for a while, mostly me, with John laughing at my stupidity when I had to ask questions (at one point, I got really mad because "it's broken! My iPod is broken! It's not working at ALL!" "what's happening?" "It's not recognizing that I'm using the touch wheel at ALL!" he came over and switched off the hold switch for me.)
Had pork and potatos from the grill for dinner. (oh, that's right, THIS is when we played Skipbo. Not that you care)
We finally went and saw Talladaga Nights. We'd been talking about it since we started the drive to CT. John was all worried the theater was going to be crowded, and I reassured him it wouldn't be, and he was all "but it's summer, kids aren't in school, blah blah blah", I told him he overestimated the number of people that went to the East Hartford Showcase Cinemas, but I told him if it looked really crowded inside, we could go home. He felt a bit silly when there was a total of about 10 cars in the parking lot.
The movie was funny.
Monday
Our last day in CT. My mom and I went to the book store where I bought Fried Green Tomatos and a book called The Memory Keeper's Daughter, which I'm reading now, since I finished Harry Potter right after getting to CT.
Got back, swam :). Then John, my dad and I went for a hike. We saw a waterfall and then followed the trail to the "little falls". Little apparently means "nonexistant" in Connecticut. *nod* It was so pathetic we kinda laughed, then turned around and walked back.
Finished updating the iPod, and started getting pictures for all the albums (John seemed a little astounded by my analness when it comes to organizing my iTunes), and then we all went out to eat at a place called 99s, which is apparently a chain in New England. I got an amazingly yummy swordfish. I pretty much eat only seafood when I go to New England, because I feel it's better there. It's probably not, but in my mind it is. You certainly can't get Lobster anywhere else that I'd venture to eat, which is what I got on Saturday's lunch.
Tuesday
John woke me up at some ungodly hour (a little after 5 AM) so we could start making the drive back. We packed up all our crap into the car (mostly my crap. hee), and then I went upstairs to say goodbye to my dad, who was still sleeping (my mom, of course, was awake and helped us pack up the cooler with leftovers)... he said to me "Tell John he's welcome back anytme". So I guess he passed the test :)
As we were driving back, John said "I've never been more happy to leave someplace that I had a really good time at". Strange thing to say, but I kinda felt the same way, though I'm sure he was more anxious to get back than I was.
At some point, he was weaving in and out of traffic and I did the nervous sucking-in-of-breath and kinda tensed and grabbed onto the armrest, and John looked over at me right after merging safely back into traffic, patted my leg and said "No worres, I'm the shit!" It was quite possibly the funniest moment of the weekend. There were other hilarious things he said that the story behind them would be too long.
We got home around 3somethingish? I think? Who the hell knows. But I got home just in time to see the last guy working on my roof leaving. It's done! Looks good. Not that a roof is all that exciting. But it's one less thing to worry about, at least.
And I got in my house and saw evidence of Lenny being around (I asked him to take care of the cats while I was gone), and doing more than he was asked to do. Like, the fact that my grill was moved, my charcoal is now gone, and there was an empty bottle of champaign and an empty bottle of smirnoff on my deck. Oh, and my A/C was turned about 7 degrees lower than what I had left it at. grrr. asswipe. Oh, and one of my pillows is missing. When he moved in, he had none and he and Joe were using two of mine, and I want them BOTH back, not just one.
But, I'm refusing to waste any more of my energy being mad at Lenny. Though, I have plenty of reasons to be.
Anyway.
Surprisingly, John wasn't so sick of seeing me that he didn't want to see me last night, too. Because he did. Of course, the main reasons behind it was that neither of us had been drunk or had sex since Thursday, which was just too much for us to handle (John finally jacked off before his shower on Monday, he said he was afraid it would turn to cement otherwise). So, we got drunk while watching Pulp Fiction (I had never seen it before), and then had sex :). The plan was to have sex, then go out to the bar and come back and have more sex, but of course we fell asleep after the first round :) So, when I woke up at 7:30 this morning, I decided that was the perfect chance for round 2, which was one of our best ever, imo.
And now here I am at work, and obviously, not completely working. Hey, I need a day to ease back in, can't just jump into the deep end, now can I?
I haven't done much catching up on you guys, but I will, oh, I will.
