I understood it without the subs yet I didn't understand why, and I watched it with the subs and I still didn't understand why. So, I just looked up other fangirls' descriptions of it in Japanese.

Apparently those faces were like sarcastic, "No way! You don't say! You're kidding!" faces at Aiba-chan's idiocy for finally realising that suntanning without letting his face suntan had absolutely no point.

Haha, I had to think twice when that scene came out too. (Don't worry, it was also morning when I first watched that as well) My guess is that they were being sarcastic since Aiba's attempt for tanning is obviously futile if he had covered his face.

Like you know, "OH THE HORROR, your skin color didn't had much difference as compared to your friend even though you went tanning!"
