Tried Guitar Hero - For real this time, rather than tipsy at a party when someone put the guitar controller in my hand. Went okay. Actually was in the 80%ish range. (Yay! - certainly room for improvement however) I think there is a handicap involved for actually having some knowledge of real guitar playing. Yes, Guitar Hero punishes you for having any clue regarding actual instrument playing. You're exactly right, you have to get a feel for the delay between what you hear, the "note" crossing the line, and the input you provided being processed. It's very different from a real instrument and the delay between note played and note perceived. I felt like I was 1/4th of a second (roughly, probably less than that) ahead of the game if I was trying to play by ear. Or maybe I just suck at both :)

Whatever you do, don't watch the youtube videos of 11 year olds wailing the hell out of Slayer on whatever the super extreme hard mode is called. It just makes you want to curl in a ball and cry because you have no self-esteem left. Although anything that makes 11 year olds listen to Slayer is ok by me. hehehe.
