reading?

A story:
Last night, while perusing the scifi/fantasy section at a Borders and chatting a little bit with the woman next to me, her 10ish year old daughter ran up with a movie. "Mom, Mom! I want this too" she whined. (How I hate children). Her mom said that she already had two books, and couldn't get the movie too. Unless she wanted to get the movie instead of the books? "Yeah, of course I want the movie. No question". Her mom looked at me and rolled her eyes, setting the books her daughter had picked out on a shelf.
Point of story.... i hate children, but i want them to read as much as i did as a kid so they can grow up to be reasonably interesting and intelligent people. An article I was reading today was talking about how Steve Jobs had dismissed Amazon's Kindle, which is an awesome new ebook reader, citing that no one reads anymore. The article gives statistics on America's reading habits, which show about a quarter of the population had not read a book in the previous year, but the same number had read 15 or more. Yay educated people! And books. God i love books.

Also--after getting back from weekend trip, my entire building has no water. Will go to class early to brush teeth. Eeeeek.
