Because I can, because I haven't seen too many recs around, and because
angearia put the idea in my head.
I've liked Batman/Wonder Woman ever since witnessing their ship tease in
Justice League and
Justice League Unlimited. I love the way she's unafraid of the Batglare (TM) that intimidates everyone else, the way he calls her "Princess", and the way they dance,
literally and
figuratively. I love how he
resists her
amusing attempts to pursue him despite
blatantly wanting her, and how they're opposites in many ways (dark knight/princess, atheist/faithful, human/goddess), yet still bond due to their common ground as 'royalty', disciplined warriors, and heroes. Also, their
sparring (read:
foreplay) is hot. ;)
BM/WW doesn't get a ton of love among hardcore comics fans, who seem to favor Batman/Catwoman, but it's been
played with
more and
more. The ship seems to be gaining acceptance, probably due in no small part to the same animated series that got me (it helps that the mastermind behind the series, Bruce Timm, is still making DC animated movies and inserting BMWW shippiness whenever possible).
Without further ado:
Memories to a Stranger by
the-lady-isis. NC-17, Trigger Warning (Rape). The-Lady-Isis is a prolific writer of much amazing BMWW fic (I'd consider her the BMWW fandom's equivalent of Buffy fandom's
liz_marcs ), but this is quite possibly her crowning achievement. A powerful and emotionally gripping story that makes me hope DC comics will hire her to write for them someday. I'd share more but it's a suspense story so I'll avoid spoiling the plot.
Switcheroo by
Chaosmob and
DaisyJane. PG-13. The combined writing style of these two authors actually comes out rather awkward at times, but the premise of this story, a body swap between Wonder Woman and Catwoman, is too good to pass up. Bonus points for fluffiness and the secondary Dick/Donna ship (for those not in the know, that's
Dick Grayson/Robin I/Nightwing and
Donna Troy/Wonder Girl/Troia, aka DC superheroes' equivalent of Willow/Xander).
In Darkest Light by
Meljean Brook. R. Bruce and Diana have sex under magical influences, hilarity/adventure/angst/romance ensues. We get steamy romance, a deep exploration of Batman's psychology, and well-written supporting characters galore (in particular, the Joker, Greek deities, Superman/Lois Lane, and Dick/Donna gen), but that's to be expected considering that the author later became a professional romance writer.
Miscellaneous Mistakes, Misunderstandings, and Misconceptions by
Aurora. PG-13. The first chapter (and only the first chapter) of this story is gratingly misformatted, but don't let that deter you from enjoying as assumptions, denial, and intimacy issues gradually and humorously give way to truth, love, and fluffy domesticity. After all, any BMWW story that concludes with Batman in a bright red floral apron is worth reading!
Christmas Interlude by
Adrian Tullberg. PG. Short but cute ficlet in which Diana finds Bruce under mistletoe at a Justice League Christmas party. The author is notable for being one of the first writers of BM/WW fanfiction on the net, as well as great skill at writing comedic scenes like this one.
Catfight by
superninja. PG. Less overtly shippy story than the rest, this story more strongly resembles BM/WW in most of their canon appearances in comics and otherwise. Still, the flirting is cute, and there's rarely an opportunity to picture Diana in a Catwoman costume.
Damn it, now I feel an urge to write BMWW fic.
