I walked upon a path most fair
I saw a face, I heard a voice
I laughed without a touch of care
I was compelled, I had no choice.
And seizing quick the pearl of day
what choices made were humbly blessed
in sunlights soft beguiling ray
I had my say, I passed my test.
Upon the evenings sunless shores
I stirred and slept, I turned and tossed
I stumbled through forgotten doors
forever dreaming I was lost.
And with the birth of new days dawn
with thoughts anew and purpose shorn
in shoes so old the soles are gone
with bloodshot eyes and pant-legs torn
I walked upon a path most fair
I saw a face, I heard a voice
I laughed without a touch of care
I was compelled, I had no choice.
