Haley’s heart raced wildly in her chest at hearing her husband’s words. Placing her thumb beneath his chin, she raised his face until he was looking at her and then, cupping his cheek, she slid her hand around to the back of his head and gently pulled him towards her as she leaned forward, their lips meeting in a soft kiss.
“You know I’d never ask you to give up basketball, right? It’s just… I want you to be careful… to stay safe and not put yourself at risk.”
“I know,” Nathan replied, giving her what he hoped was a reassuring smile before dipping in to steal another kiss. Taking her hand in his, he intertwined their fingers, his thumb rubbing along the back of it. “I needed you to know that you and Jamie come first with me. You always will and I promise to take things a bit easier during practice from now on.”
“You come first with us, too,” she whispered, nuzzling her nose against his before adding, “Thank you.” Tilting her head to the side, she kissed him again; her tongue teasing his lips until he parted them and granted her access.
“God, Hales… If we weren’t outside…”
“You’d what?” Haley asked, her breathing catching in her throat at the huskiness of his tone.
He smirked at her. “Oh, I think you know.”
“Hmm, maybe you should show me… you know, just to make sure we’re on the same page,” she told him, her eyes twinkling with amusement.
Laughing, he nodded in agreement. “Yeah… that’s not a bad idea.” Without saying another word, he got up off of the picnic table and, placing his hands on her hips, picked her up so that they were at eye level.
“Nathan!”
“What? I thought you wanted me to show you.”
“Um… We’re in broad daylight, buddy.”
“You didn’t seem to care a minute ago when your tongue was ticking my tonsils.”
Haley blushed at that. “I didn’t hear you complaining,” she mumbled into his ear as she tried to hide her face from him.
“Oh, believe me, you’ll never hear me complaining about that.”
“Why am I not surprised?”
Instead of answering her verbally, Nathan turned his face and sought her lips which he found immediately. As they kissed, he tightened his hold around her, pressing her even closer into his body.
She moaned when he began kissing his way down her neck and she dug her fingernails into his shoulders as the sensations he was eliciting within her grew stronger. It was a good job he was holding her because she was pretty sure she’d be a puddle of mush on the floor otherwise.
“I want you so much…” he murmured against her skin. His fingers caressed up and down her side, brushing against her breast which had her moaning even louder. Drawing back from her, he couldn’t help chuckling at the rosy blush that still tinted her cheeks as well as the way her teeth were biting into her plump bottom lip. Sucking the tender flesh into his mouth and soothing it with his tongue, he kept his eyes trained on her rich chocolate pools the whole time.
“Take me home, Nathan,” she said softly as one of her hands massaged the back of his neck.
His mouth met hers repeatedly as he walked her backwards towards their car, making sure to keep his eyes open so as not to stumble.
“I can walk, you know!”
His arms tightened around her waist again as he laughed. “Oh, I know. I love watching you walk… The way your hips sway from side to side, especially when you’re wearing high heels and those tight skirts of yours… Damn!”
If possible, Haley’s blush intensified. Her man was too smooth for his own good.
“God, I love that I can still make you blush as hard as when we first started dating.”
“Will you stop?” she said, trying not to laugh as she fanned herself with one hand.
“Not a chance,” he told her, dropping yet another kiss onto her lips. Having reached the car, he reluctantly lowered her although he didn’t release her from his embrace. He brushed his lips over hers once more before deciding he needed a further taste and so repeated the motion.
“We’d better get going,” she breathlessly said several minutes later. “I’m helping Jamie with a little project and he’s probably driving Luke mad waiting for me to get home so we can finish it.”
“And there I was about to suggest we give the car a workout,” Nathan teased.
“Well, maybe I can be a little late,” she said, winking at him knowingly. Walking around to the passenger side, she opened the door and climbed into the vehicle.
Shaking his head, Nathan laughed at her antics before he followed suit and got into the car. If he had his way, they’d be getting home pretty damn late indeed.
