Leaning against the tiled wall of the hot tub, Haley smiled as she watched Nathan holding Jamie up high, telling him how he knew he could do it before bringing him in close to his body and hugging him. Her smile deepened when after throwing their son through the air again, Nathan turned to look at her, a smile stretched across his own face.
God, she loved them so much. Their interaction together was adorable and she could watch them for hours on end. They were so alike and sometimes when she looked at Jamie, she could see so many of his Nathan’s traits within him; the way he smirked whenever he’d gotten his own way being just one example.
“Hey,” Nathan’s voice broke into her thoughts.
“Hey,” she replied, her body shivering at his close proximity. The way he looked at her made her melt and reaching out a hand, she cupped his cheek in her palm, loving the way he leaned into her touch.
Her eyes fluttered shut as he moved in even closer and brushed his nose against hers before finding her lips and kissing them softly. She parted them and as soon as she had, his tongue was slipping inside her mouth to tangle playfully with her own.
“You’re wearing far too many clothes for my liking,” he said several minutes later, his voice taking on a deep, husky tone.
Haley felt her face heat up and glancing behind him to where Jamie was, she saw their boy splashing away, his back currently to them. “Yeah? Well so are you,” she replied, grabbing a fistful of his black T-shirt. Leaning forward, she kissed the tip of his nose, laughing at the way he scrunched up his face. Yeah, that was another thing he and Jamie shared.
Before she could move away, Nathan’s hand was cupping the back of her head and closing the tiny gap between them, he covered her lips and kissed her properly. He moaned into her mouth when she brought her arms around his neck and stroked the back of it with the pads of her fingers.
Wrapping her jean-clad legs around his hips, it was Haley’s turn to release a quiet moan when he took a step closer and pressed himself against her completely. He was gripping her hips… One hand moving to roam over her butt while the other worked its way up and brushed the underside of her breast.
A voice inside her head was trying to tell her that they couldn’t do what they were doing right now but before she had a chance to break the kiss and vocalize those words, a sudden wave of water washed over them both and they instantly broke apart.
“What the he-”
“Nathan!” she quickly interrupted.
Smirking at her, he said, “I was going to say heck.”
She chuckled at that. “Yeah, right.”
Turning to face the little person who had just splashed them, she saw that smirk etched upon his beautiful little face… the smirk he was using more and more these days and which she loved just as much as the one his daddy was forever using on her.
“Hey, buddy! You know it’s rude to splash people, especially when those people are us,” Nathan told him, trying to sound serious but failing completely.
“Sorry!” Jamie said, before bringing his hands though the water and doing it again.
Haley wiped the water away from her face, smoothing away the wet strands of hair that were plastered to it and sharing a knowing look with Nathan, they both moved away from their current positions to chase after their naughty five-year-old.
“C’mere, you!” she called out, her hands gliding through the water to splash him back and laughing at the way he was trying to get away from them.
“No!” Jamie said, shrieking loudly when his daddy caught one of his feet and pulled him back.
“Gotcha!” Nathan exclaimed, lifting Jamie out of the water and holding him up high like a trophy before lowering him a few seconds later and handing him over to Haley.
“I’m sorry for splashing you, Momma,” he told her, his bottom lip sticking out in a pout, his hands resting on her shoulders.
“Ooh, you’re bringing out the big guns, huh?” she joked.
Coming to stand beside her, Nathan looked at the expression on his son’s face and he couldn’t help but laugh. “Yeah, Hales, he’s definitely bringing out the big guns. What do you say? Do we forgive him?”
Haley pondered it for a moment before her face broke out into another smile. Her boy… Actually, both her boys were too cute to be mad at when they brought out the pout. “Well… okaaaay,” she said teasingly, nuzzling her nose against Jamie’s in a soft Eskimo kiss. She was just about to say something else when a sudden wave of water soaked her from behind, only this time it covered Jamie as well. Squeezing the water out of her eyes, she saw him giving the thumbs up and turning around, she saw Nathan standing a short distance away from her, a big grin gracing his face as he held his own thumbs up. Looking back at her son, she gave him her own smirk. “You think that’s funny, huh, Jimmy-Jam?”
He shook his head no, although his giggle gave away his real answer.
Releasing him from her embrace, she watched him, with the aid of his floaties, paddle over to where Nathan was, biting her lip to hide her smile when they high-fived each other. “Oh, I see; you were in on this together. I guess the battle lines have been drawn, then.”
Before either of them could do anything, Haley brought her own hands through the water, causing as big a splash as possible to hit them. She watched them wipe the water off of their faces before sharing a look and she found herself backing away from them, having a pretty good idea of what was going to happen next.
The sounds of shrieks and laughter filled the air as Nathan caught her within seconds and lifted her out of the water, throwing her through the air as easily as he had done with their son.
“I am so going to get you for that,” she told him when she’d managed to catch her breath. Jamie was floating behind his father, clapping his hands with obvious glee at his parents silliness.
“Do you promise?” he asked, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
Lowering her voice, she raised one eyebrow and said, “I guess you’ll just have to wait and see.” Swimming around her husband and making her way towards their son, she added, “And as for you, young man…”
Nathan watched as Haley gently splashed Jamie who, in turn, started splashing her back. His heart felt light in his chest at their interaction and wading through the water, he joined in, splashing them both. He laughed when they joined forces and began splashing him instead of each other.
Oh, it was so on!
