down the river of night's dreaming

Because I finally got into writing my reel_glee fic (I swear to god, it's like it hates me or something) and now I have to go to bed, I am stealing this meme from pretty much every Glee person on my flist:

Give me a word and a pairing/character and I will give you at least one line of fic. I don't promise it will be a full story, but it could ( Read more... )

Puck lay on the floor, staring up at the ceiling in the darkness. He had the sleeping bag pulled tight up to his chin, even though it meant he had to bend his knees uncomfortably to manage it.

Somewhere in the house something creaked. Puck started, twisting towards the noise in a rustle of polyester.

He waited, heart pounding in his chest.

Everything fell silent again.

Puck relaxed, exhaling the breath he’d been holding.

Something tapped loudly against the window. Puck rolled over, wishing the sleeping bag wasn’t so noisy and stared with wide eyes against the window until he was sure it was just the wind blowing a tree branch against the side of the house.

He rolled back.

Two eyes glinted at him in the darkness.

“Ahh!”

The eyes closed, laughing.

“Dude, what the fuck?”

Puck sat up and glared at Finn.

“You’re a dick,” he said.

“You’re a chicken,” Finn retorted. “Are you scared of the dark?”

“No,” Puck replied honestly. “The Puckster isn’t afraid of anything.” That was a lie, and Finn knew it.

Finn grinned. “I told you we shouldn’t have watched that horror movie before bed. You know how you get.”

Puck narrowed his eyes, putting more effort into his glare than was necessary, considering Finn could hardly see him in the darkness.

“I don’t get scared,” Puck insisted. “It’s fine.”

He lay back down, pointedly closing his eyes. He waited a beat then opened them again.

“Stop staring at me,” Puck said, annoyed. “How can I sleep with you watching me like some lovesick psychopath.”

Finn shrugged and the watching eyes disappeared as he lay back down in his bed.

“Hey,” Finn said, voice almost a whisper. “Remember when we were kids and we’d get scared and both sleep in the same bed?”

Puck remembered. He remembered the comfortable, warm weight of Finn against his back, the reassuring arm that sometimes got thrown across his chest as they slept. It had felt safe, like no monster or ghost or murderer could get them because they were together. It was kind of lame.

“Yeah,” Puck said. “It was kinda gay. The bed’s too small for that now, anyway.”

Finn didn’t reply for a long moment, then there was a rustle of sheets. A pillow landed with a soft noise beside Puck’s head.

“What’re you doing?” Puck asked, as Finn swung his feet out of the bed.

Finn slid down onto the floor beside Puck, dragging his bedclothes with him as he lay down, smoothing the blankets over himself and over Puck too.

“Dude!” Puck wriggled over onto his side, facing Finn. “What’re you doing? I’m not scared. Don’t treat me like I’m a kid.”

“Maybe I’m the one who’s scared,” Finn said quietly.

“You’re such a pussy, Finnessa,” Puck said, flopping back onto his back, pretending like he wasn’t grateful when Finn’s arm snaked heavily across Puck’s chest.

Puck lay still for a moment, then inched closer until his body was flush against Finn’s, Finn’s face pressed into Puck’s shoulder.

Puck wasn’t sure, but he thought he felt Finn’s mouth curve into a smile.

Something somewhere in the house creaked again, but Puck barely noticed over the sound of Finn’s slow breathing.

He closed his eyes and went to sleep.

I love everything about this fic! I'm totally afraid of the dark so it's completely fitting for me. I love how Finn uses his wiles (boys have them too don't they?) on Puck to get him to fall asleep. really I thought that Finn would use his mouth or his hand to get the job done, but we can save that for a later story.

Awesome job, Dr. Becca!!!!!!

*is super proud*

Thank you! Boys totally have wiles- or at least Finn does (maybe as a result of seeing how well they work on Puck, so he's developed them over the years?). And hey, this journal is totally PG rated! None of that hanky panky around these parts! (Besides, Finn's saving using his mouth or his hand for the morning, to wake Puck up and make him stop being grumpy).
