you were the last good thing about this part of town

Ok. This is quite possibly going to be the longest concert report EVER. And it's even longer because I took pictures and vids this time!

So. Thursday. The day before the awesomeness can start. And I come down with an epically bad cold. I mean, I was really fucking ill, shivering and sneezing and not being able to breathe. And then finny91's plane got delayed which meant she didn't arrive on Friday morning as planned, but on Saturday morning instead. So we roadtripped south, enjoying the beautiful sounds of FOB as we did. Once we got down to the midlands, we headed to the cinema and watched Eagle Eye, which was lulzy. I kinda remembered about mini RyanRoss just before it started, but was determined not to say anything so it was hilarious when Vicki turned to me at one point and went 'Is that!?' and then we laughed through the rest of it. And then there were yummy tapas and a concert call from mintyfiend during Hum Hallelujah, although it didn't show up as an answerphone message until Monday (but it was even more awesome to hear it then!).

The next morning we got up at ass o'clock and headed for the airport to meet mintyfiend and themoononastick. Me being me, I'd forgotten to write down the flight number but there was a flight from Dublin arriving at the first terminal at the right time so we sat there and waited, and of course it was the wrong one. Beck and Lynn found us alright though, and while we were sitting there chatting, the FOB techs arrived with their gear so we effectively accidentally stalked the techs (I'm hoping that when they strolled past the line later they didn't recognise us cos lol, creepy).

We started queuing around half 12 maybe? And there were, like, 30 people ahead of us. And then they made us all move to the other side, and these dicks pushed ahead and there were, like, 40 people in front of us. And then these other girls turned up and there were 50 people ahead of us, and people got kinda pissed off. I feel kinda bad cos we saw jess_darkwater and she wanted to come and hang with us, but I didn't want her to get yelled at too. Sorry Jess :(

As it turned out, the queuing was a waste of time anyways, because they opened the door and pointed to a door across the room and told everyone to queue there, so, like, a hundred people ran past us. Then they handed out wristbands, and let us through that door in a sea of insane people. Lynn tried to grab my arm so we didn't all get separated but I was being carried along by the crowd and it really fucking hurt my shoulder. We got through the doors alive though and down to the next set of doors (seriously, it was insane). We were by Jess and her friend for awhile, and then the doors opened and everyone just kinda...ran. And my god, the number of people on Pete's side was insane! We, of course, were headed straight for Joe anyways, and after the shoving and stupid bitches feeling ill and pushing their way out, and then back in and then out and back in again, we ended up right by the barrier, just to the left of Joe. And it was a fantastic view.

You Me At Six came on first and they were okay. Their guitarist was kinda a faily sweetheart so I loved him a little. They tried to get a circle pit going, but it failed. And they had this cute way of introducing their songs ('This is a song about making beds, and sleeping in them. It's called You've Made Your Bed, Now Sleep In It' and 'This is a song about shoes. It's called In Your Shoes'). And then Boys Like Girls came on and they sucked balls so much and acted like we should know all of their songs and love them. Uh. No.

And then they put this curtain up at the front of the stage, and the security dude came round and was all 'When the lights go down, put your hands over your ears! COVER YOUR EARS' and we were all 'Ooh, pryo!' and clamped our hands down when the lights went out and I'm not kidding it went 'bang' when the curtain dropped. That's all. Like, not even gunshot loud. But I was too busy going OH MY GOD ITS FALL OUT BOY in my mind when they came out on stage.

I'm not kidding, my mind just went totally blank except for the words 'FOB EXIST' flashing in my mind.

Honestly, I can't remember that much about the first show, other than that I was completely overwhelmed and completely in love with each and every one of them. They are amazing on stage, and Patrick was fantastic so everyone who said he sucked live were worlds of wrong. He strutted around onstage, sang his little heart out, grinned at his bandmates, attempted a wee spin of his own and just generally owned me heart and soul. Joe was adorable in his little wolf shirt, falling to his knees and playing, running around all over the stage. He has the most amazing hair in the world and he kept trying to get people to sing louder. I have to admit, I didn't pay that much attention to Andy but omg he's pretty amazing, no? And Pete. Pete, Pete, Pete. I love him more than ever. He seems so in his element on stage. He fucked up at one point and pulled this hilarious face. And when they played Saturday he took out his earpieces and started jumping around and the tech was trying to plug him back in but he wasn't stopping and then he got tangled in his mic cord and rolled around on the floor and went into the audience. And, okay. I openly mock people who scream and try and grab for people when they go into a crowd, and their behaviour, in general, kinda disgusts me (I mean, people pulling out Travie's hair? Not cool). But my inner teenie went OH MY GOD PETE WENTZ MUST TOUCH before I realised that I had been rendered temporarily insane.

I'm still kinda a bit !!!!! about the whole thing. Fall Out Boy completely blew all other gigs I've been to out of the water. I loved all of the songs they played- I Don't Care was fantastic with the flashing guitars. And they did a bit of American Boy, which was pretty awesome. And I maybe cried a little when they played Hum Hallelujah and then maybe cried a little harder when Pete came over to our side of the stage during it. That song...it just means so much to me, you know?

Anyways. In conclusion: Fall Out Boy in Birmingham= absolutely amazing and the best show I've ever seen in my life. Like, I went on and on about Panic in Glasgow but this was just. I have no words.

The next day we took Beck to the airport and then drove back to Glasgow and just hung out. And the next day we met up with saturnalia and went and queued about quarter to 2 and there was like, no one there. We ended up talking to these girls who were just in front of us and talked about all things FOB and Panic and Cobras and TAI and MCR. It was a lot of fun. We laughed at people's fashion choices (there were some girls there who would have been too bizarely dressed for a Cobra show, and that's saying a lot). We stood and watched as a giant bear or monkey or whatever it was ran up and down the line high fiving people and hugging them. So many people were all 'LOL who is that douche' and we were all 'oh hey Pete' and when he got back towards the door he took the head off and the place went insane. Like, people screamed, left their places in the queue, went completely mental.

They were really good about letting people in- they let in about 50 people and then held up the queue, which meant we got brilliant positions at the barrier, right in front of Joe.

Again, I'm hazy on the details because all I have is OMG AWESOME running through my mind, but Pete called Patrick his American boy. Patrick was wearing some sort of hanky code thing on his wrist. Hey Chris was there so they played Grenade Jumper completely off the cuff and Patrick looked all worried about it. Also it was freaking amazing.

Phone signal in there was kinda weird. I'd phoned loveyouallwrong and rain_dances on sunday night, and I'm so glad I did, cos I had no signal at all on tuesday. And it was annoying cos I wanted to phone Beck for Pete's little speech before I Don't Care, so much. And so right before then I took my phone out, switched it off and then on again, and I got signal! And I'm not kidding, it lasted the length of the song, and then it hung around long enough for me to pick up some texts and then it disappeared again. So, someone somewhere wanted that call to get through.

Oh! Speaking of phonecalls! Patrick was on stage making a phonecall while You Me At Six were setting up. And not a single person seemed to notice. We were all 'Awww Patrick' and everyone just ignored him. Such a weird contrast to the way people reacted when they saw Pete in the furry costume. It's kinda odd that the quietest place for him to make a phonecall was on stage, no?

Anyways, I know I'm forgetting a zillion other important things (like Pete saying to scream if you were with your best friends, cos he was there with his) and that they liked playing in Glasgow cos the weather reminded them of back home (maybe I should rethink going to Chicago at some point then?) and Joe yelling at us to sing louder and louder and louder. And how they sent a tech in to start a circle pit and it looked kinda hilarious but seemed to work. And just. God. EVERYTHING.

Enough babbling. I got a new camera a few weeks back, and I really love it. I took a ridiculous number of pictures, and a fair few vids (although the security dude seemed to hate me and kept standing in front of me whenever I was filming). Here are a few/shitload of pics I took!

I kinda love this picture a lot, so it seems a good place to start. Note the yellow cloth on Patrick's hand. It's a hanky code y/mfy/he and Pete are soulmates. I mean, come on. It's like Pete's favourite secret fetish or something.

God, that boy. How is he so amazing? I wish he knew how great we all think he is, and never listened to people who say shitty things.

Joe's wolf shirt. I kinda love him a lot. He fell to his knees a couple of times, but my pics are kinda blurry. Goddammit.

Peeeeeeeeeete. Ridiculous boy.

I love the way Patrick stands when he's onstage.

Er. I tried to take a pic of Andy, but got Patrick's ass instead. Oops?

Seriously

Paddington Bear Pete! It makes me want fic where Pete is found in whatever the big railway station in Chicago is with a note pinned to his coat that says 'Please look after this Pete, thank you' and Patrick and Joe are Mr and Mrs Brown and Andy is Mrs Bird and Ryan is Mr Gruber and like, William or Gabe or someone is Mr Curry and calles Pete 'Wentz!'. Imagine Pete's hard stares!

...

Anyways.

It's kinda adorable, no? They changed for I Don't Care, with the flashy guitars and stuff (which was awesome, btw).

Here is Patrick looking sexy.

And again.

And here is my second favourite part of JoeTroh's body (the first being his hair).

And here, finally, is a Hurley! It is so hard to get a good pic of him, all the way at the back, in the dark.

I kinda really love this pic. It's my new background on my comp and just. Nnrgh.

This? Makes me so happy whenever it happens. Just. God. Them.

This is Pete about to throw some Invisible Children shirts into the crowd. We talked to the dudes from that in the queue- they were doing some sort of raffle where if you donated a couple of quid you could win a poster signed by the band, which was kinda awesome. And they chatted with us about the band and the charity and how this girl who was sitting with us was in love with Patrick and they seemed pretty damn awesome. I was maybe a little smitten.

I'm a bit of a sucker for these boys together and whenever they got near each other I was all MUST PHOTOGRAPH.

I just love their dynamic so much. I love that it works for them, and that they have each other and I'm maybe completely jealous of the bond they have, because that has to be freaking awesome, you know?

I love this pic! It's like Joe! Clapping! And then you see Patrick's face and it's kinda ♥__♥

Pete doing his Dance Dance dance. LOL. With his hand on Patrick's shoulder!

Patrick doing his whole 'I am a puppet' routine thing.

Pete doing his screamo thing during Saturday.

He was all over Patrick like, a split second before this was taken. Oh boys.

Finally, this is a crap pic, but it makes me worry that Patrick is going to be standing on a box, peering through the window, being a scary robot again.

And that was the show!

...Okay, so, I uploaded my vids to photobucket but I can't embed them in LJ? I don't know why bit whenever I try to it freaks out and messes this post up. Help anyone? There's this hot thing of Joe yelling and some pretty good footage of Patrick.

Anyways.

I feel like there are so many things I'm forgetting! We walked past Hey Chris at the end and I kinda stared at him before I realised who he was and then Vicki was like 'yeah, that's him' and it was kinda neat how no one was screaming and chasing after him like happens to Panic's entourage people.

I got the set list off the security girl, which was kinda awesome. They played:

Thnks Fr Th Mmrs
Thriller
16 Candles
The Take Over
Nobody Puts Baby...
Arms Race
I Don't Care
Chicago
Me & You
Where Is Your Boy (we threw our rocks? in the air for it) and maybe American Boy was right before? I'm not too sure.
Hum Hallelujah
I Slept With Someone In FOB...
Sugar, We're Going Down
Beat It
Dance Dance
Grenade Jumper (at Glasgow)
Saturday

Um. What else. Well. We went home, went to bed, got up and watched the **** video then deposited saturnalia and themoononastick at their trainstations, and went and had lunch (om nom nom, veggie bacon. I'm a fan of meat, but I really like that stuff) and then decided to go and see a movie. Since the choices seemed limited, and we appear to be unable to do something non-bandom related this past week, we went and saw the House Bunny, which was cringy and ridiculous and holy crap Tyson how did I not realise how hot you were? I need more AAR in my life, clearly. Also we got kinda excited when the Cab song was played. Precious faily boys (who, omg, I am so excited about seeing in just over a week!!!).

And then this morning I took Vicki to the airport and she soared home and I went back to my real life, which is a lot suckier than the one I was enjoying having.

But! I was TAing this morning for a class on metabolism, and the students had kept a food and activity diary, and one of the boys had 'concert' written down for tuesday night. So I asked him what the gig was and we had the following conversation:

Him: *shifty eyes, mumbles* Fall Out Boy
Me: Oh, cool!
Him: *defensively* I took my girlfriend, okay?
Me: Wasn't it awesome? I was there too. Really amazing.
Him: Oh really?! That's so cool! Where were you?
Me: Barrier on Joe's side.
Him: Oh my god! We didn't get there til 8 so we were halfway back. But it was still really good! I saw them in Edinburgh last year and Pete Wentz seems so much happier now.
Me: Married life and impending fatherhood suit him.
Him: I know, right? I'm so glad he's happy now.
Me: Me too!

And then we beamed at each other until I got called away to help another student. I know I'm not supposed to have favourites, but he's mine automatically now. And to be honest, that really helped with the coming back to earth with a bump type day I had.

In conclusion: Fall Out Boy own my heart and my soul and I want to see them perform every day and if I was working rather than doing a PhD and if I wasn't taking a week to see Panic from next thursday, I would have gotten in the car and driven to London yesterday and gone to see them.

The only part that made me sad, really, was that I didn't get any merch in Brum, and when I got to the stand in Glasgow, they'd run out of tour shirts in my size and I desperately want one. Goddammit. I kinda hope people sell them on Ebay, because it is so awesome and I need it.

So. Yeah. Conclusion: I love Fall Out Boy. I really like being able to take pics at gigs now. I want to see them perform forever and ever and ever. I really wish they'd play a small show nearby when we're in NYC. Pete Wentz is the most amazing man and I wish he could see it. I want to relive that week all over again.

That is all.
