Does anyone else feel weird about referring to American hurricane victims as refugeesIt seems to me that the media's use of this term serves only to perceptually separate these people from us, so as to numb public reaction to both the general horror of the situation as well as to the government's heinous neglect. Houston is being shitty about it too... Everyone's mindset is just "Why would we want rapists and murderers in the Astrodome... Crime rate's going to go up!!"

i live where they're keeping all of the "refugees", and it's incredible. everyone's worrying about nothing but watching their own ass and locking their car door a little tighter. then all of the people who came here for help are totally fucked because the entire city is terrified of them. it's a mess. a big one.
all we can do is all we can do, though.

yeah im pretty upset about it. i have family in louisiana that had to leave becuase of the storm. i think i am going to send clothing and other needed things to the victims
