LJ has always about being easy on the eyes (and tough on the mind). One man who provides amazing eye candy and is running for the LJ board is Chris Ambler.  Here's the URL to vote: http://community.livejournal.com/lj_election_en/25463.html

He might have chosen a different icon, at least while he was running his campaign. I would have voted for him based solely on your esteemed opinion, but he lost my vote based solely on his icon. Which might mean my vote isn't well-considered and therefore not philosophically worth much, but I did some calculations and while possibly irrational, my vote is still, empirically, worth one vote.

Sorry. That was, perhaps, uncalled for. I see from his election post and page that his message, and preferred audience, is quite clear.
I forget that LJ is a big cyber world and I reside in only a tiny, conservative, surburban part of it.
Still can't vote for him, though, but at least I can see that I'm the radical, incendiary nut in this little drama, so I'll just shut up now.

Dear friend, your comment was valid, welcome and received in the spirit it was sent - voicing a rational reason for not voting for Chris. You're no more radical than I in your viewpoint (I'm a radical moderate, honest!), but someone whose opinion I value and am all the more happy to receive because I know it's heartfelt and honest.

The reason I'm happy to recommend Mr. Ambler is only partly his skill as a glamour photographer (he has a great knack of showing off the human form, as do a couple of the other people on my friend's list *smile*) but more based on what and how he writes - he's an uncompromising Libertarian whose combatative defence of his viewpoints has earned my respect even if I rarely agree with what he says. So, he's not to everyone's taste, and we're not just talking about his icons...

You are gracious, and a gentleman. The good thing is, that this caused me to actually read everyone's election post and having done that, I feel compelled to vote when I might otherwise have let the election slide by.

One thing I can say in Mr. Ambler's favor is that, unlike an alarming number of the candidates, he comports himself in a manner that is lucid, intelligent, and indicative of being of a legal driving age, both physically and mentally.

I'd cite examples of the "bad" election posts, but it truly pains me too much to read them again.

Thank you! I've been feeling all middle-aged and frumpy lately, but I'm happy to report that with only minimal fussing, I actually look rather adorable tonight.
So clearly the lesson is to treat every day like my birthday.
