So I beat FFXIII last night, and I stayed up way past my bedtime to do it. No regrets. I had to be at work at 6:30 this morning, and I ended up being up almost until midnight working through the final string of boss battles. I must not be built for marathon gaming the way Daniel is. You get to a certain area in a game like that and you know that you're at the end, just as soon as you can get to it. Getting there is tiring though. At one point I died during one of the last few fights. It had come directly after another (hard) fight with no rest in between and I told Daniel that if I had to repeat that first fight I would quit. I'd just look up the ending on YouTube or something and be done with it. I think at that point I meant it to. All that over a video game...
So, no spoilers, but some of the fights are very... satisfying. The ending is a good ending overall, not that I'm saying whether it's happy or sad. Just good. The story was wrapped up very well, much better than I expected it to be actually. Overall I'm okay with how everything went down. I do still feel like the game is a little heavy handed with both how it tells the story and how it tells you what you're supposed to think/feel about it.
This is the first Final Fantasy game that I've ever played through and beaten, and I did it without a guide book too. I'm kind of proud of that fact. I'm still planning on playing around with it some to finish out some sidequests and try to get some of the achievements for leveling up. I wasn't thrilled with the Leona Lewis song at the end, but I would love to get a copy of the scored soundtrack. And I love the angry way Lightning says the name of whoever you're fighting (for the big battles at least).
Daniel's currently at the first recording of
In Game Chat after a three week break. He's probably the only one there that's played and finished FFXIII so he's most likely going to end up talking about it some. I feel slightly cheated knowing that if he does he's going to steal one of my lines. Earlier today we were talking about the game and I said that once Hope got done whining (and I honestly wanted to hit him in his whiny phase) he suddenly became Tiny Tim. Everyone is standing around looking grim and getting ready for whatever fight comes next and Hope is all "We can do it TOGETHER!" (Roughly speaking of course). God bless us, every one.
