My weekend in NC was good. Pam & Brock's house is nice, even if the pictures are leaning against the walls instead of hanging on them, lol. Ranger (formerly Noah) is the best dog in the world. And very cute.

Spent time with Grandpa, which was nice since I hadn't been down there since Gram's funeral last April. He bought a new(ish), loaded to the gills Lincoln (he's been driving Lincolns since as far back as I can remember) and transfered over the menagerie of bobble-headed dogs and one cat that Gram had on the sundeck of his old car. I also got to visit Gram's grave and leave some flowers.

Pam took me to this teeny, tiny used book store that she goes to and I walked out with three books, plus the two that I swiped from the stack she was bringing in for store credit. I bought American Gods by Neil Gaiman and Four Past Midnight and Cujo by Stephen King (and didn't realize until I got home Sunday night that I already own Cujo. D'oh!), and swiped Bet Me and Charlie All Night by Jennifer Crusie. After that we hit the antique stores in town and found some goodies.

I bought another book. An old pulp fiction called Two Tickets For Tangier by Van Wyck Mason. There was another book with an absolutely fabulous cover - bright colors, hilarious blurb - but the pages were all falling out. It was missing the first 72 pages! I wish it had been in better condition, but I like the one I bought, too.

I found a couple of old postcards, too. A colorful Illinois one, and an utterly fab Piccadilly Circus one. The detail on the Piccadilly Circus card is amazing, though it doesn't come through in the scan. There's no date but judging by the cars and the style of the advertising I'm guessing it's around the 30's or 40's. Anybody care to hazard a guess?

I also found a couple of old stereo cards of Paris. They're not in the best of condition, but they're of places I visited and were only a dollar. I could not leave them behind!

I read A Gentleman's Game this past weekend, also. I started it while waiting to board the plane to leave at Midway, and finished it while waiting to board the plane to come home at Raleigh-Durham. And almost cried near the ending, when that horrible and completely unexpected thing that happened happened. Oh my God I was so not prepared for that. Poor Tara! Damn Greg Rucka for hurting her like that! But, oh God, I can't wait to read the sequel.

Now for something completely different.

I kind of cheated a bit on my Lent thing last night. I just could not sleep without panties last night. I don't know why, but for some reason I just couldn't relax enough to get comfortable to sleep. Finally I had to get up and put some underwear on. But I didn't wear them today! I'm going to try sleeping in boxer shorts tonight, no panties, and see if I can sleep that way.
