This entry might seem a little bipolar. So here we go first with the yang.
(Because I know how people get their hands on music these days) oddly enough, I'm probably among the last of his fans to do this, but I
had a listen to John Mayer's new album in its entirety the other day. And I honest to goodness cannot remember the last time I've been this enthusiastic about getting my hands on a CD. Like the actual hard copy of a record. I really don't think I can wait until the 12th. I really don't. It's the ultimate test in patience and restraint for me not to play it over and over again. I don't want to run the risk of being sick of it before it even comes out. But I've only heard it once (okay, fiiiine. twice.) and I'm still blown away by it, so excuse me a minute while I bring myself back to solid ground.
'kay.
It's one of the soundest, most complete albums I think I've ever heard. And it's just so... multilayered that it has something for everyone, I think. So have a bite. Even if you don't end up liking it, at least you tried. And goodbye because we can no longer be friends.
Totally joking. But do check it out. I was being serious about that part.
Having said that, I feel like the music I've been listening to as of late otherwise has been really... linear, for lack of a better word. Not the music itself. Just in general, the type of music I've been listening to. Like it's all the very well known, on heavy rotation on the radio, kind of hackneyed kind of stuff. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that, sadly, I've been away from a lot of my fellow music friends at school who are always doin' the "Hey, have you heard of ___________________(insert name of obscure band here)? Oooh, you gotta check this out! (hands over iPod)" thing at every turn of the corner. I've missed having that kind of guidance. I haven't really added any "new" artists to my music rotation. It's all the same old stuff. Not to slam the old stuff. I love the old stuff. But I'm in the mood for something new. Something completely different.
So if you're reading this, even if you're not an LJer, I want you to contact me somehow. Leave a comment, shoot me an
email, send a telegram,
morse code it in, whatever you need to do. And tell me the name of at least three artists that you're totally digging right now. Any genre. Lead me in some sort of direction. Go.
The more obscure, the better. Don't worry, though, if you think I've heard it before. Just tell me anyway; I'll take that gamble for you. And don't worry about whether you think I'll like it or not. I can't promise you that I will, but I promise to give it a shot.
Grazie! And more importantly, happy birthday
