Do you know how hard it is
to write your own wedding vows?
Especially when you are made of words and words contain multitudes
It’s important to choose the right ones
for brevity
for clarity
for wit
for love
But how can I do that when
every time I write of you
I write leagues
Every time I speak of our love
I sing for days
How can I capture the small bright moments
that flicker across the memory like silken sunlight
A hand outstretched to take mine
The quiet huff of air as you burrow into the sheets
A sunny morning slant of light across sleepy honey brown eyes
Those moments when I look at you and
s w e l l
to bursting like a ripe peach
How do you write that into vows?
How do you condense an expanse of feeling that would dwarf our galaxy’s galaxy
into less that five minutes of words?
Gerome:
I like your laugh the best. The scent of wood and dark earth in your hair is maddening. There is no one I would rather see the sunrise with than you. You are my air. I will never find anything, not rain, nor forest, nor sun, nor brightest star in the darkest sky, that could ever compare to the wonder of you.
