The Big Apple

So Mallory and I went to NYC with Calvary to help a new church starting up there spread the word.

Wednesday:
We flew in and went to the Yankess/Rangers game that night. We made some new friends that liked our accents and Mal and I's blonde-ness. George (in a very thick accent): "Brunettes, they're a dime a dozen. Redheads, we got plenty of you!" Then, when Mal asked if he was on the facebook, he turned to his friends and said: "This girl just asked me if I was on the Facebook! I'm all over the facebook!" Then we went and checked out Times Square at night, and saw Christina Milian doing a live concert. We got back to our hotel and saw Hugh Grant and Brad Garrett (Robert from "Raymond") filming a movie and we were like 10ft away from them!

Thursday:
We did some mission work and ate at a restaurant with a wonderful view and checked out the Statue of Liberty at night. Then Mal and I went on a 2 hour adventure to find some bakery and some guys told us outside it that they put cocaine in the icing. O-kaaayyy.

Friday:
Mal and I checked out 5th Avenue and saw LOTS of stuff. We played the big piano from "Big," saw James Woods buying an engagement ring in Tiffany's, and did some shopping. I also checked something off my to-do list and bought a hot dog off a cart! That night 8 of us went to see a really funny off-Broadway play "I Love You Because," and ate at a wonderful Italian restaurant before where I branched out and ate veal parmesan!

Saturday:
We did some more mission-y work and then went to check out Chinatown, where we got some really cute purses and sunglasses for cheap. We also checked out Rockefeller Center. Mal and I were on the subway later, and it stopped right out of the station. Most of the cars were still on the platform, but they wouldn't open the doors. So after about 20 minutes, Mal and I climb and jump from the space in between the subway cars while a Texas model caught us! It was pretty intense.

Sunday:
We went to the Brooklyn Tabernacle, which was AMAZING. Then Mal and I went and checked out the Met, which was very very cool. There was a huge abstract metal structure named "Becca." We went and worshipped with the church we were helping, and then all went and took over a cafe for desert and just hung out and laughed.

Monday:
Mal and went to Central Park before we had to leave, and it was gorgeous. I checked another thing off my list by running like Phoebe!!! We flew out at like 2.

Quotes of the week:

Mal on her strategy for not getting tossed around on the subway: "Spread your legs and grab a pole!"

From the play: "We're just friends- who do stuff with chocolate syrup!"
